About Department
Our Department of Biotechnology is a one-of-a-kind and all encompassing place created to impart theoretical and practical training covering all the major contemporary subjects in Biotechnology and Microbiology covering Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Disease biology, Genetic engineering, biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Bio-instrumentation, etc. We offer both B.Tech and M.Tech courses in Biotechnology and; B.Sc and M.Sc Microbiology. Our aim is to train our students as competent future Biotechnologists equipped with the latest in the field who will profoundly influence the existing paradigm of agriculture, industry, healthcare and restoration of the environment, providing a sustainable competitive edge to present society.
Our comprehensive training equips the student to compete for higher education and meet the demands of the bio-industry, as well as those of teaching and research. All undergraduate students must take foundation courses in English, mathematics, environmental science, computer applications, and statistics in order to broaden their knowledge base. The students have the option to take electives that they are interested in taking that are given by other departments. This will assist our students in diversifying their knowledge in order to increase their work options. All of our faculty members have outstanding academic credentials and cutting edge research training at reputed Indian and International institutes/universities. Thus,students will have ample opportunity for theoretical and experimental research training. Our in-depth training confers the student to be competitive for higher studies and to cater to the needs of bio-industries, teaching and research.
The research interests of the Department of Biotechnology are encompassing of the following categories: Clinical Biotechnology related to epigenetics clock (comparison of biological and real age ), Cancer and Kidney diseases, Fundamental and applied Microbial Biology to address viral, bacterial and protozoan pathogenesis and Plant Biology to meet the challenges of alternative green energy and food sources. Our research contributions through journal publications have been significant, leading to patents. Our faculty members are well equipped to provide outstanding training to PhD students.
