Ans. Department of CST offers

  • Ph.D in Computer Science – Minimum duration for submission of Ph.D. thesis is three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.
  • M.Tech Computer Engineering – It’s a full time 2 years degree program.
  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering – It’s a full time 4 years degree program.
  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Data Science & Machine Learning in association with Xebia – It’s a full time 4 years degree program.

Q.2.What are the major differentiators of the courses offered by DoCST?

Ans. All programs offered by the DoCST follow Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) where student has the flexibility of choosing courses of his choice and interest. The department offers large basket of electives that lead to distinctive specialization. Our major differentiators are:

  • Our teaching pedagogy focuses on “learning-by-doing” which aims to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
  • Incorporation of new technology in the curriculum aims to bridge in the gap of skilled manpower requirements. Q.3.What is the Reservation policy?

Ans. Manav Rachna University presently follows the reservation policy as under:

  • NRI/Foreign National/PIO seats: 15% in all programmes / courses.
  • General Seats: 85% (25% seats are reserved for Haryana domicile students, of which 10% seats are for the SC candidates of Haryana).
  • Kashmiri Migrants: 1 seat in merit quota for the programmes.

Ans. At MRU, the core faculty comprises of distinguished academicians (GATE, NET qualified) from the best institutions and leading professionals from the corporate world with rich industry and research experience. The faculty lays great emphasis on continuous evaluation by means of well-designed tutorials and hands on practice sessions in computer labs.

DoCST uses STEP (Simulated Teaching EnabledProgrammes) methodology which adds dynamism to the teaching methodology implicating the “tools” that further provide the hands on practice for progressive, consolidated learning and implementation, with excellent pedagogic techniques like teaching through demonstration, analogies, case based learning, scenario playing, depicting the concepts through flash movies, role plays etc.

Q.5. What are the computer environments / platforms at CST department, MRU?

Ans.  The Department uses Windows, Linux, Cloud based platforms and virtualization techniques for instruction (Labs) and course assignments. We provide numerous computing facilities for our students, faculty and staff. Hands on experience is an important element in the student’s curriculum since it helps to create a learning environment in which students are more confident and productive as they engage in projects that empower them to take ownership of their education. The department offers extensive computer labs in the different areas of computing. Departmental computer labs are equipped with the latest software in the respective areas and hardware complements its implementation. The student-computer ratio in the lab is 1:1 and the faculty-student ratio in the computer lab is 1:15 which aims to facilitate our learning by doing pedagogy.

  • MIT’s Global Startups Workshop Competition:TeamEyeluminati comprising of Roopam Sharma (CSE 4th Year) and Neeraj Saini (ECE 3rd Year) secured 2nd position and scored a honorable mention at the World Finals of the MIT’s Global Startups Workshop Competition held from 21st to 23rd March 2016, at Hyderabad.   • JK Pal Memorial Best Student Volunteer Award:For the year 2015-16, IEEE Delhi section in its award ceremony at MSIT on 23rd April 2016 awarded Sunakshi Mehta, the Chairperson of MRU IEEE with the Outstanding Student Volunteer Award for the second year in a row. Upasana Nagpal, the chairperson of MRU IEEE WIE was awarded Outstanding WIE Student Volunteer Award. Q.9.What social/academic organizations and extracurricular activities are open to CST students?

Ans. The office of Dean Students offers various social/ cultural societies and technical committees. Our students are associated with social clubs like Jeevandayni, Rotary Club, Lion’s Club and Red Cross Society, involved in different social services like blood donation camps and relief camps. Department has formed student branches in association with different technical societies like IEEE, ISTE and NPTEL. The student branches are regularly organizing competitions and technical events at the regional and national level.

Q.10.Can one go for higher studies after graduating from MRU?

Ans. Yes, MRU degree is as good as the one awarded by any central or state university. A Bachelor degree holder from MRU can also apply for higher studies in any of the Indian or overseas universities.

Q.11.What are the anti-ragging measures taken by MRU?

 Ans. University has constituted University level Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squads to check the menace of ragging in the campus in conformity with the guidelines issued by the UGC. A Women cell has also been constituted to provide gender sensitive information, create awareness among the students and to ensure a congenial work atmosphere in the campus so that women at MRU may not feel any gender specific discrimination. The cell has also been empowered to act as a Departmental Competent Committee to deal with the cases of sexual harassment of women at work place/Institutions as per the direction passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and guidelines framed by the Govt.

Q.12.What are the eligibility criteria for B.Tech CSE offered by CST department?

Ans. Candidates should have passed 10+2 examination from the CBSE/State Boards or from any other recognized board/Council with atleast 50% aggregate marks in 5 subjects with Physics, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects.

Q.13.What is the minimum attendance required to appear in the examination

Ans. A student shall be required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in a course to be eligible for appearing in end semester examination of that particular course. In case of absence due to unavoidable circumstances, students shall be required to take prior permission from the Dean of the Faculty/Head of the Department concerned. In case of absence due to illness, students will have to produce a Medical Report signed by attending Physician/Surgeon with an application from their parents or guardians. All students detained, due to shortage of attendance, in a course shall be required to re-register for the course and all previous internal assessments/test scores shall become null and void.

Q.14.Is there any provision of scholarship for meritorious students?

Ans. Aimed at promoting meritorious students, scholarship includes tuition fee waiver and is awarded to the students of UG on the basis of marks/CGPA in the qualifying examination as per following scale; however the students are required to pay other fees as applicable to the programme concerned.

Merit Scholarship to Semester/Branch Toppers

  • Students bagging 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the Odd &Even semester exams(Based on the amalgamated SGPA/CGPA) every year for each programme being run at MRU, as under:
  1. First Position: 25% of Tuition Fee or Rs.25000/- whichever is less
  2. Second Position: 15% of Tuition Fee or Rs.15000/- whichever is less
  3. Third Position: 10% of Tuition Fee or RS.10000/- whichever is less
  • The following are the guidelines for granting these Merit Scholarships:
  1. Any programme must have strength of 90 or more in semester exam to qualify for first, second and third position scholarship, otherwise only a solitary topper shall be given a solitary first position scholarship.
  2. If the strength of a course is 10 or less no scholarship will be awarded for that course
  3. A student shall be eligible to benefit for tuition fee waiver only from one source only.

Conditions for Continuation of Scholarship in Subsequent Years

Progress of students awarded scholarship for academic year in subsequent years shall be reviewed after end of 2ndsemester for continuation, based upon his/her performance in the 1st and 2nd semester. For continuation of scholarship student shall be required to:

  • Maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.0.
  • Have 75% attendance in all courses (excluding education programmes) in each semester.
  • Register for all courses and earn credits for these courses as defined in curriculum scheme of programme of admission i.e. the student shall not pursue the semester in under load mode (registering lesser number of credits).
  • Applicants should not have been suspended for any grave act of indiscipline by the university.
  • No disciplinary action against the applicant is established or pending in case of raging or eve teasing.
  • The applicant should not be receiving any other scholarship from any other source whatsoever, for which a certificate signed by student & parents is to be provided.

Merit cum Means Scholarship

MRU offers Scholarship based on merit cum means, to the candidates admitted under reservation for Haryana Candidates. Scheme shall be applicable to all Undergraduate and Post Graduate Programs. The Scheme is applicable to all students whose parents have annual income up to Rs. 2.80 Lac from all sources. Under the scheme, the students shall be given fee waiver limited to the tuition fee as per the following scale. Candidates are required to pay other fee as applicable to the programme concerned.

  • One fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted full tuition fee concession;
  • Two fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted fifty percent fee concession;
  • The balance two fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted twenty five percent fee concession.

Conditions for Continuation of Scholarship in Subsequent Years

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria for claiming the fee concession:

  • The attendance criteria of the university.
  • Maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.0. However, if any student considered for fee concession in the first year fails in any of the subject, he/she may be considered for continuation of fee concession provided that he/she shall have to clear the subjects in the subsequent academic year failing which he/she may not be considered for the continuation of Fee Concession.
  • Applicants should not have been suspended for any grave act of indiscipline by the university.
  • No disciplinary action against the applicant is established or pending in case of raging or eve teasing.
  • The applicant should not be receiving any other scholarship from any other source whatsoever, for which a certificate signed by student & parents is to be provided.

Note:

  • In addition, suitable free ship shall be available to high achievers in the field of sports, persons suffering with Thalassemia Major, sons/daughters of Army Personnel who have been killed in war/terrorist attack, physically handicapped students etc. on case to case basis.

    Q.15.What is the minimum credit requirement for graduating from MRU in B.Tech course?

Ans. (a)Completion of Minimum Credits:

As specified in the curriculum, completion of minimum credits of the program shall be the condition for the award of the degree. These credits should be earned under different categories as follows:

  • All core courses as defined in curriculum scheme;
  • All University mandatory courses;
  • All summer trainings;
  • At least two electives offered by parent department;
  • At least one elective offered by other engineering department;
  • At least one elective offered by sciences (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry etc.) Department
  • At least one elective offered by Department of Humanities;
  • At least one elective by Management Department.

(b)Lower and Upper Limits for Credits Registered:

A student must register for a minimum of 14 credits and a maximum of 29 credits in a semester. The minimum credits registered should include at least 2 courses under category of hard courses which can be core or elective with first preference to core.

(c) Credits Earned at Different Universities / Institutes:

Provision shall be made for acknowledgement of credits earned by a student through course work/project work/internship

First preference will be given to Merit in valid GATE Score in the relevant stream. Second preference shall be given to Marks in qualifying degree.

 Relaxation in Marks:

A relaxation in cut-off percentage up to 10% subject to minimum eligibility requirements will be given to Kashmiri Migrants.

 Reservation Policy:

A minimum of 25% seats for admission in the University shall be reserved for the students of State of Haryana, out of which 10% seats will be reserved for students belonging to Scheduled Caste of the State of Haryana.

  • One fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted full tuition fee concession;
  • Two fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted fifty percent fee concession;
  • The balance two fifth of the twenty five percent shall be granted twenty five percent fee concession.

Conditions for Continuation of Scholarship in Subsequent Years

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria for claiming the fee concession:

  • The attendance criteria of the university.
  • Maintain a minimum CGPA of 7.0. However, if any student considered for fee concession in the first year fails in any of the subject, he/she may be considered for continuation of fee concession provided that he/she shall have to clear the subjects in the subsequent academic year failing which he/she may not be considered for the continuation of Fee Concession.
  • Applicants should not have been suspended for any grave act of indiscipline by the university.
  • No disciplinary action against the applicant is established or pending in case of raging or eve teasing.
  • The applicant should not be receiving any other scholarship from any other source whatsoever, for which a certificate signed by student & parents is to be provided.

Note:

  • In addition, suitable free ship shall be available to high achievers in the field of sports, persons suffering with Thalassemia Major, sons/daughters of Army Personnel who have been killed in war/terrorist attack, physically handicapped students etc. on case to case basis.
  • Candidates passing out from any of the institutions of MREI and son/daughter of faculty / staff member of any of the institutions of MREI will get one time concession of Rs 5000/- at the time of admission in any of the programme being offered at Manav Rachna University.
