Q.1.What all programs does the department offer and what is the duration of the programs?

Ans. Department of CST offers

  • Ph.D in Computer Science – Minimum duration for submission of Ph.D. thesis is three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.
  • M.Tech Computer Engineering – It’s a full time 2 years degree program.
  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering – It’s a full time 4 years degree program.
  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Data Science & Machine Learning in association with Xebia – It’s a full time 4 years degree program.
  • BTech Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Digital Transformation Engineering in association with Xebia – It’s a full time 4 years degree program.

Q.2.What are the major differentiators of the courses offered by DoCST?

Ans. All programs offered by the DoCST follow Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) where student has the flexibility of choosing courses of his choice and interest. The department offers large basket of electives that lead to distinctive specialization. Our major differentiators are:

  • Our teaching pedagogy focuses on “learning-by-doing” which aims to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
  • Incorporation of new technology in the curriculum aims to bridge in the gap of skilled manpower requirements. Focused industry ready syllabi with each vertical defined in the curriculum aims to create a platform for specified field (Cloud Computing, BigData, Neural Networks, Business Analytics, Apps Development, Web Development).
  • Computer lab component added to all MRU courses which ensure that the student is involved proactively in the learning by doing approach.
  • The department has collaborations with many external organizations who work in association with the departments to impart education to the students on cutting edge technology, in the form of summer trainings and workshops.

Q.3.What is the Reservation policy?

Ans. Manav Rachna University presently follows the reservation policy as under:

  • NRI/Foreign National/PIO seats: 15% in all programmes / courses.
  • General Seats: 85% (25% seats are reserved for Haryana domicile students, of which 10% seats are for the SC candidates of Haryana).
  • Kashmiri Migrants: 1 seat in merit quota for the programmes.

Q.4.What is the quality of the Faculty in DoCST and what is so innovative in their teaching methodologies?

Ans. At MRU, the core faculty comprises of distinguished academicians (GATE, NET qualified) from the best institutions and leading professionals from the corporate world with rich industry and research experience. The faculty lays great emphasis on continuous evaluation by means of well-designed tutorials and hands on practice sessions in computer labs.

DoCST uses STEP (Simulated Teaching EnabledProgrammes) methodology which adds dynamism to the teaching methodology implicating the “tools” that further provide the hands on practice for progressive, consolidated learning and implementation, with excellent pedagogic techniques like teaching through demonstration, analogies, case based learning, scenario playing, depicting the concepts through flash movies, role plays etc.

Q.5. What are the computer environments / platforms at CST department, MRU?

Ans.  The Department uses Windows, Linux, Cloud based platforms and virtualization techniques for instruction (Labs) and course assignments. We provide numerous computing facilities for our students, faculty and staff. Hands on experience is an important element in the student’s curriculum since it helps to create a learning environment in which students are more confident and productive as they engage in projects that empower them to take ownership of their education. The department offers extensive computer labs in the different areas of computing. Departmental computer labs are equipped with the latest software in the respective areas and hardware complements its implementation. The student-computer ratio in the lab is 1:1 and the faculty-student ratio in the computer lab is 1:15 which aims to facilitate our learning by doing pedagogy.

  • Nishu Goel, B.Tech-IT 2018 Graduate from Manav Rachna University, was invited as an international speaker to talk on ‘Custom Directives in Angular’, at ng-Nepal Angular Conference 2018
  • Shubham Sood: Outstanding NPTEL Achievement Awarded Elite Gold Certificate for completing The Joy of computing using python,2018
  • Co-Founders of Zenith Vipers &Workolab, Ensure Equity: Yuvraj Bhardwaj &Yashraj Bhardwaj are Co-Founders of Zenith Vipers &Workolab, Ensure Equity. They are 18 years old Researcher & Entrepreneur and own 22 Research Projects, and also have 7 patents on their name. They have been research collaborate with many institutions. They are also the recipients of Karmaveer Chakra Award 2016 and the winners of SF fellowship 2017. They are among top 30 Young Entrepreneurs across the world by Success Magazine. They are also the youngest Indians to enter the final nominee list of Padma Shri 2018. They got “The Eagle Award” from Government of Malaysia, which is one of the highest award in Malaysia by Government on 2017 Independence Day.
  • Daksh Sharma at Summit Manipal-12 APRIL 2017: Daksh Sharma, CSE (2015-19), was the chairperson of the Futuristic Security Council, SUMMIT MANIPAL, the Model United Nations conference.
  • Global Science, Technology & Innovation Conference (G-STIC) 2017: Akanksha Ahuja (CSE, IV Year, MRU; student member Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences Cluster) participated in the Global Science, Technology & Innovation Conference (G-STIC) 2017. She emerged as one of the top three winners in Student Challenge category all over the world. She has now been invited to participate in G-STIC 2017 being organized in Brussels from 23 to 25 October to present her idea.
  • Google Summer of Code 2017 internship: Kartik Sibal, B.Tech CSE 6th Semester has successfully completed Google Summer of Code 2017 internship, contributed to the open source project “AboutCode” and received 2400 USD.
  • JK Pal Memorial Best Student Volunteer Award:For the year 2015-16, IEEE Delhi section in its award ceremony at MSIT on 23rd April 2016 awarded Sunakshi Mehta, the Chairperson of MRU IEEE with the Outstanding Student Volunteer Award for the second year in a row. Upasana Nagpal, the chairperson of MRU IEEE WIE was awarded Outstanding WIE Student Volunteer Award. Vakul Sehgal, the Vice Chairperson of MRU IEEE was awarded with Dr. JK Pal Memorial Best Student Volunteer Award. Also, Vakul Sehgal was felicitated for being an active coordinator of SAC Team of Delhi Section.

Q.7.What is the job prospects for the students of Computer Science?

Ans. The scope of computer science is endless. The students of the computer science are highly demanded by the recruiters of the top companies. The computer engineering and IT Applications fields are experiencing an increase of opportunity driven by the technological transformation of every industry. The current market outlook is being shaped by the demand for technological solutions and innovation—particularly in mobile computing—and a host of emerging markets such as Big Data, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, Apps Development, Web Development, Internet of things, Nanotechnology and green computing. Q.9.What social/academic organizations and extracurricular activities are open to CST students?

Ans. The office of Dean Students offers various social/ cultural societies and technical committees. Our students are associated with social clubs like Jeevandayni, Rotary Club, Lion’s Club and Red Cross Society, involved in different social services like blood donation camps and relief camps. Department has formed student branches in association with different technical societies like IEEE, ISTE and NPTEL. The student branches are regularly organizing competitions and technical events at the regional and national level.

Q.10.Can one go for higher studies after graduating from MRU?

Ans. Yes, MRU degree is as good as the one awarded by any central or state university. A Bachelor degree holder from MRU can also apply for higher studies in any of the Indian or overseas universities.

Q.11.What are the anti-ragging measures taken by MRU?

 Ans. University has constituted University level Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squads to check the menace of ragging in the campus in conformity with the guidelines issued by the UGC. A Women cell has also been constituted to provide gender sensitive information, create awareness among the students and to ensure a congenial work atmosphere in the campus so that women at MRU may not feel any gender specific discrimination. The cell has also been empowered to act as a Departmental Competent Committee to deal with the cases of sexual harassment of women at work place/Institutions as per the direction passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and guidelines framed by the Govt.

Q.13.What is the minimum attendance required to appear in the examination

Ans. A student shall be required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in a course to be eligible for appearing in end semester examination.

Q.14.Is there any provision of scholarship for meritorious students?

Q.15.What is the minimum credit requirement for graduating from MRU in B.Tech course?

Ans. (a)Completion of Minimum Credits:

As specified in the curriculum, completion of minimum credits of the program shall be the condition for the award of the degree. These credits should be earned under different categories as follows:

  • All core courses as defined in curriculum scheme;
  • All University mandatory courses;
  • All summer trainings;
  • At least two electives offered by parent department;
  • At least one elective offered by other engineering department;
  • At least one elective offered by sciences (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry etc.) Department
  • At least one elective offered by Department of Humanities;
  • At least one elective by Management Department.

(b)Lower and Upper Limits for Credits Registered:

A student must register for a minimum of 14 credits and a maximum of 29 credits in a semester. The minimum credits registered should include at least 2 courses under category of hard courses which can be core or elective with first preference to core.

(c) Credits Earned at Different Universities / Institutes:

Provision shall be made for acknowledgement of credits earned by a student through course work/project work/internship

Q.2.What are the various areas in which students can do research?

Ans. Lab facilities and expert faculty members are available to guide the students in the areas like Speech Processing, Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, Image Processing, Soft Computing, Big Data, Software Engineering, Data Mining, Robotics, Cloud Computing, Network Security, Open Source Technologies etc.

Q.3.What is the minimum credit requirement for graduating from MRU in M.Tech course?

Ans. Completion of a minimum of 90-100 credits, including all core courses, as specified in the curriculum scheme; successful completion of summer training; and successful completion of all stages of dissertation work shall be the condition for award of degree.

A student must register for a minimum of 14 credits and a maximum of 29 credits in a semester.

Q.4.What is the minimum attendance required to appear in the examination?

Ans. A student shall be required to have a minimum attendance of 75% in a course to be eligible for appearing in end semester examination of that particular course. In case of absence due to unavoidable circumstances, students shall be required to take prior permission from the Dean of the Faculty/Head of the Department concerned. In case of absence due to illness, students will have to produce a Medical Report signed by attending Physician/Surgeon with an application from their parents or guardians. All students detained, due to shortage of attendance, in a course shall be required to reregister for the course and all previous internal assessments/test scores shall become null and void.
