A Five days’ faculty development program on “Leadership in academic practice (LEAP)” in association with NITTTR, Chandigarh was organized by Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Department of social and political sciences under the able guidance of Dean and HOD Physiotherapy and N&D, Director, DOSPS from 13-17 June, 2022. The target audience for the FDP was faculty members of MRIIRS.

Five days FDP was divided into three sessions per day which were conducted by renowned experts in quality certifications, as well as Institutional brand enhancement through quality interventions. A total of 45 faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Computer Applications, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies, Faculty of Management Studies and Faculty of Media Studies registered for the course and attended the program attentively. This STC was a true mix of skills, regularity and sincerity which brought so much to the table of the faculties of all the departments who were all praise and full of gratitude towards the organizers of the event.

Post Industry Visit Report on 06.05.2022 Industry Visit to National Brain and Research Centre (NBRC)- Manesar

On 6th May 2022, Department of Physiotherapy, FAHS organized an industrial visit for students of Master of Physiotherapy (Neurology) total of 10 students visited the National Brain and Research Centre (NBRC) under the supervision of faculty members Dr. Priyanka Sethi (PT) and Dr. Sunita. The team from NBRC guided the students to the core of their knowledge and expertise. It is an autonomous institute and a nodal centre under the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The institute is dedicated to research in neuroscience and brain functions in health and diseases using multidisciplinary approaches. The institute pursues research to understand brain functions in health and diseases, generate trained human resources with the capability to conduct interdisciplinary research in neuroscience, and promote neuroscience in India through networking among national institutions. NBRC is the only institute in India dedicated to neuroscience research and education. Scientists and students at NBRC come from diverse academic backgrounds, including biological, computational, mathematical, physical, engineering and medical sciences, and use multidisciplinary approaches to unravel secrets of the brain. Dr. Arpan Banerjee the Senior Scientist at NBRC-Manesar Gurgaon has helped us to made this visit possible. Dr. Arpan has shown us MRI with 3 Tesla specifications, (a product of Siemen) he explained about its functioning and usage. Also, he explicated various ways to analyse this MRI Study through structural and Functional forms in both T1 & T2 images.This centre is one among two of centres in whole India with this configuration of MRI. Ms. Nisha Ph.D. Scholar at NRBC has described about the methods of analysing the outputs received after conducting MRI, and how to read the values to get the desirable results. After this, another Ph.D. Scholar Mr. Neeraj has taken us to EEG lab, where he has given detailed description about operations of EEG and he shared his studies on the normal population. The Visit was really interactive and the buddying physiotherapists have shown their keen interest in the ongoing researches as well as they raised many queries based on their understanding on EEG & MRI with their utilization in the field of neurological rehabilitation. The aim to explore, learn and have experiential learning and to develop the zeal to be more research oriented was well achieved through the exposure to advanced technologies and diagnostics done to the patients.

Ending my remarks by stating that this event would not be possible without the continuous support and inputs of Prof. (Dr.) G.L Khanna Pro Vice Chancellor-MRIIRS who given us this opportunity to interact with the specialists there at NRBC. The efforts done by Dean FAHS Prof. (Dr.) Moattar Raza Rizvi and Head of Department Dr. Nitesh Malhotra who were always there to motivate us to engage more and the transport team MRIIRS who helped us to reach out at NRBC.

Industrial visit to Indian Spinal injury Centre (ISIC) Vasant Kunj New Delhi On 19.04.2022

On 19th April. 2022, the students from department of physiotherapy along with teaching faculty Dr. Priyanka Sethi and Dr. Sunita visited Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC). During the visit with the assistance of professors and the team from ISIC, students learnt and experienced plethora of things. The buddying physiotherapists have seen various divisions of the Physiotherapy department at ISIC including, rehabilitation centre, assistive devices rooms, prosthetic and orthotic room, anatomy lab, museum, electrotherapy lab, hydrotherapy pool, specially designed advanced rehabilitation centre.

Indian Spinal Injuries Centre provides state of the art facilities for the management of all types of spinal ailments. The team there is dedicated and supportive. The spine service provides comprehensive management of spinal injury, back pain, spinal deformities, tumours, osteoporosis etc.

Students have attended the post visit webinar related to spinal injuries and how to prevent them which was organised by the faculty of Department of Physiotherapy, ISIC followed by self-assessment and feedback questionnaires.

The visit ended up with the closed remarks delivered by Dr. Chitra Kataria-The Principal, Department of Rehabilitation, ISIC. She has recommended all the students to practice hands on techniques with the patients and gave open invite for the future visits to learn other trainings conducted by ISIC including wheelchair training, pressure mapping techniques, spinal cord injury etc. This visit has set up a benchmark for all the buddying physiotherapists to explore more and do mastery in their domain of rehabilitation.

On 20th April 2022, the students of Department of Physiotherapy visited Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC) under the supervision of our faculty members Dr. Priyanka Sethi (PT) and Dr. Sunita. During the visit with the assistance of our professors and the team from ISIC we got to learn and experience plethora of things. The aim to explore, learn and have experiential learning was well achieved through the exposure to advance technologies and treatment provided to the patients.

Indian Spinal Injuries Centre provides state of the art facilities for the management of all types of spinal ailments. The team there is dedicated and supportive. The spine service provides comprehensive management of spinal injury, back pain, spinal deformities, tumours, osteoporosis etc.

During our visit we have seen different assessment tools for physical and cognitive impairments and technology-based training programs developed for different neurological disorders. They made us experience virtual reality technology (WII Nintendo) that is used for balance and coordination and EMG based motion assessment which helps to understand the concept of muscle contraction during a movement in a graphic manner.

We got to attend webinar which was related to spinal injuries and how to prevent them. After the seminar we got to test ourselves as well by filling pre and post questionnaires.

Furthermore, we explored the hydrotherapy treatment area and got fascinated by the method we can treat a patient using a pool and resistance equipment’s like dumbbells and tubes. After the hydrotherapy, we moved to the prosthetics and orthotics department where we were able to understand various types of materials and designs that are used in the making of prosthetic and orthotic devices.

Overall, it was an amazing and learning experience for all. The day ended with a satisfactory remark and a zeal to explore more about the recent technologies that can be further implemented for serving into the society and more practical knowledge can be acquired in the field of physiotherapy.

Report on organized on One day workshop on Basic Understanding of EMG (CLASS-IV) 0n 18.05.2022

Department of Physiotherapy organized a one-day workshop for students of Masters in physiotherapy first year.32 students were registered and different sessions were conducted to get hands on both machines to be further used for research purposes.

Workshop was presented by Mr. Manish, Chief sales executive Chattanooga from Noida who had some knowledge and updated research on the topic to be delivered.

Dr. Priyanka, Assistant professor ,Department of Physiotherapy , FAHS address and briefed about the objective and outcome of the workshop .It was attended by Dr Nitesh Malhotra , HOD Department of Physiotherapy ,FAHS and all faculty available at time to work in collaboration with students .Mr .Manish addressed the gathering and emphasized on the significance of EMG and its merits in diagnostic and therapeutic practice to work towards our vision of speedy recovery and excellence in patient care simultaneously working on data collection to be analyzed and used for research projects.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY, FACULTY OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES, MRIIRS CELEBRATES THE WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY ON 08-09-2022.

The World Physical Therapy Day is celebrated on 8th September every year. It is an opportunity for physical therapists all over the world to raise awareness about the crucial role their profession plays in making and keeping people well, mobile and independent. The day was established in 1996, by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy – the profession’s global body representing over 350,000 physical therapists in 106 countries. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physical therapy community. It is an opportunity to recognize the work that physical therapists do for their patients and community.

In the wake of aforementioned occasion, 6th -8th September , 2022 were dedicated to World Physiotherapy Day. A health camp was organized on 6th September 2022 in Collaboration with QRG Hospital , Faridabad which included free consultation with Sr. Consultant, QRG Hospital , Bone Mineral Densitometry , Random Blood Sugar , ECG & Blood Pressure monitoring among others. This also included expert talk on Osteoarthritis & its Management by Dr. Sumit Batra, Head of Department, Sr. Consultant QRG Hospital Faridabad where he concentrated on medical and surgical management of the disorder.

The next day included Awareness Walk and a nukkad natak on Osteoarthritis by the students & faculties of Department of Physiotherapy, FAHS. The students were also made aware of Osteoarthritis & its Management by Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Sr, Physiotherapist, IBS Hospital, New Delhi where he concentrated on physiotherapy management of the disorder. The day also included cultural performances by the students.

The World Physiotherapy Day was celebrated on 8th September, 2022 with Dr. Nitesh Malhotra, HoD, PT welcoming the chief guest Dr. Jaswinder Kaur, HoD, Physiotherapy, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, a physiotherapist with over 35 years of experience. The event commenced with Ganesh Vandana to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha and a ceremonial lighting of lamp. He appreciated the efforts of the students in putting up a great event and promised on behalf of department to put more efforts & provide more learning opportunities such as these to the students. Dr. Jaswinder Kaur talked about the role of physiotherapy in the society and the ever evolving role of a physiotherapist.She opined that Physiotherapy is needed in every sphere of life and across all age groups.The efficacy of physiotherapy is such that it has no side effects.The day concluded with awards to the faculties and students for excelling in their respective fields and a vote of thanks by Dr. MR Rizvi, Dean, FAHS on the behalf of department of physiotherapy and thanked all the dignitaries and congratulated the students for their efforts.
