The Department of English at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies was established in the year 2013, offering the degree of B.A. Honors to students. In 2015, it became a part of the Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities and expanded its offerings to include an M.A. Degree Course. Currently, the department caters to more than 145 students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It offers an industry oriented curriculum for its Bachelor of Arts in English course.

The Department of English offers programmes both at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. The programmes offered are -BA (H) English, MA (English) and PhD. The syllabi of the different course are planned meticulously, comprising all the schools, periods and genres of English literature. The entire stream of English literature from the age of Chaucer to the Modern Age comes under the purview of the syllabi. The scope of the study is broadened by incorporating The Classical Greek literature, Indian Literature, African and Continental Literature. The syllabi of various courses match well with those prescribed in the reputed universities such as University of Delhi, JNU and Jamia Milia Islamia. Competent and experienced faculty members are available in the department to supervise research scholars for PhD degree. Adequate infrastructural facilities are provided for smooth running of the programmes.

The Student has to submit the application form online using the scratch card and brochure number provided with the admission brochure or directly using debit/ credit card.
The student should then secure two hard copies of the submitted application form. One copy should be kept for self reference and the other should be submitted to MRIIRS at the time of Physical Counseling.
BA (H) English is a 3-year undergraduate programme that teaches the students about the development of English literature and language into modern society through drama, fiction, poetry, epics written by authors across the ages and centuries. Its objective is to broaden the horizon of the students so that they can perceive human life and conditions in the correct perspective.
It differs from the “Pass Course” in terms of syllabi, content and extensive study of English Literature. English Honors programme focuses more on the specialized study of English Literature rather than giving general knowledge and information about other subjects and areas of Arts and Humanities.
The scope and demand of BA (H) English is vast and varied. After the completion of the degree the students can pursue higher studies and excel their careers in the field of academics and research. It enables the students for competitive examinations including the Civil Services Exam. It has been observed that the students with literature background have better chances of getting selected for the Civil Services. Besides, they can pursue their careers in the areas of Management, Journalism etc.
One of the biggest advantages of doing BA (H) English is that it creates a new lens to view life. It develops an enthusiastic sense of awareness about one’s society and surroundings. It prepares students for careers in various fields such as teaching, writing, publishing, media, advertising, public relations, content writers, blogging, creative writing etc.
As a minimum eligibility criteria a student needs to pass in 10+ 2 examination/equivalent examination with at least 45% marks in aggregate in 5 subjects including English as compulsory subject along with 4 subjects with the highest score out of the remaining subjects.
We organize personality development classes to help the students to enhance their soft skills, career exploration, resume writing, interviewing skills and presentation skills. We also organize panel discussions, news reading, mock parliament, group discussions and news analysis for the overall development of their body, mind and soul. Work-shops on various related topics and technical aspects of syllabi are organized. We also arrange guest lectures by renowned and seasoned Professors of the field. We have got tie-ups with the industry expertise.
The Faculty of the English Department is highly experienced and qualified when compared with the U.G.C norms and regulations. All the faculty members have expertise in various genres of literature and are from well reputed central and state universities, IITs etc. They have been consistently contributing towards research by writing research papers, edited books, books, research projects and guiding PhD scholars.
The Department of English provides a good infrastructure that includes AC fitted classrooms with projectors and wifi. We also have the facility of a studio for recording, evaluating and improving the public speaking skills of the students.
The Department has a well stocked library with a large number of books in different areas of English language, literature and soft-skills. The library also maintains a good number of printed books, journals and magazines.

No, there is no need to submit original certificates but the candidate must produce original certificates/documents on the day of admission for verification, failing which the candidate shall not be considered for the same.

For MA English– Mark-sheet of Graduation, 12th original mark sheet, date of birth certificate, address proof, medical certificate, and character certificate from institution last attended.
MRIIRS has a well organized placement cell called Corporate Resource Centre which is doing a commendable job every year. We conduct special coaching sessions for improving the employability skills of the students. We have a good rapport with other educational institutions for the exposure of the students to their academic and research environment.

A separate cell has been set-up for providing assistance in education loan from bank. Also, representatives of various banks remain available in campus during physical counseling days.
