In the mechanical engineering department students perform various technical activities under Society of Automotive Engineers-India. SAE-INDIA is an affiliated society of SAE International registered in India as an Indian non-profit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement of the automobile sector.

Adoption of choice based credit system, in-line with the New Education Policy 2020
Well-planned and designed classroom lectures, in addition to weekly tutorial and laboratory sessions for better understanding and application of the concepts learnt in class
Continuous up-gradation of the teaching pedagogy, with the rapid increase in availability of relevant software tools and technology
Gradual shift towards involvement of students in the teaching-learning process by encouragement of project-based learning and flipped classroom approaches

Encouragement of cooperative and collaborative learning among students
Creation of centres of excellence with healthy ecosystems to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research, to foster creativity, innovation and design among students
Ensuring universal accessibility of various facilities such as libraries, sports, health-care, etc within the campus, to provide a barrier-free learning environment to the students

Certification through NPTEL MOOC

National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institute of Science(IISc) have joined hands with the Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development’s(HRD) through NPTEL, to launch Open Online courses on the massive open online courses (MOOC) model in February, 2014. The NPTEL courses are free for anyone with access to the Internet. SWAYAM is the National MOOCs portal being developed by MHRD, Govt. of India.

In order to ensure best quality content is produced and delivered, seven National Coordinators have been appointed under SWAYAM.

NPTEL is the official SWAYAM national coordinator for engineering. All NPTEL online certification courses are SWAYAM courses too. From March 2014, NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs.
