The 3rd International Conference on Green and Sustainable Chemistry (GSCC 2025) was organized by the Department of Sciences at Manav Rachna University, Faridabad, in association with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The conference was held on March 20-21, 2025. The event aimed to provide a multidisciplinary platform for participants from academia, industry, authorities, and other institutions to discuss the importance of green and sustainable development in science and technology.
The Inaugural Session of the conference was held at G Block Mandala having participation from renowned researchers, industry experts, academicians, and students focused on advancing Green and Sustainable Chemistry. Prof. (Dr.) Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice-Chancellor of MRU and Chairperson of GSCC 2025, played a pivotal role in enhancing participation and collaborations. The session began at 10:00 AM with a welcome by the MCs, Dr. Priti Gupta and Dr. Anshuman Sahai, followed by Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana. Prof. (Dr.) Dipali Bansal, Vice-Chairperson of GSCC 2025, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, while Prof. (Dr.) Arpit Sand, Convener of GSCC 2025, introduced the conference theme and objectives.
Prof. (Dr.) Sangita Banga, Pro Vice-Chancellor of MRU, highlighted the importance of collaborations between academia, industry, and research institutions for achieving sustainability goals. The Chief Guest, Dr. L.P. Singh (Director General, NCCBM), emphasized green chemistry's role in sustainable industrial practices, while Guest of Honour Ms. Mohua M. Basu (Executive Director, IOCL) stressed industry-academia partnerships, quoting Mahatma Gandhi: “There is enough on this earth for everyone’s need but for no one’s greed.” Mr. Shyam Kishore Chaudhary (Technip Energies) highlighted the importance of innovation over service sectors, particularly in carbon capture technologies. The session concluded with the release of the conference souvenir, mementos presentation, and a Vote of Thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kumar, HOD Sciences.
The conference featured a series of technical sessions held over two days. The sessions comprised special addresses, invited lectures, and oral presentations by prominent researchers and academicians. After the Inaugural session, Poster presentations were started during the high tea in which the 23 selected poster presenters were allocated space in K Block Ground floor for displaying their posters. The poster presenters explained their work to the panel member, audiences of the conference till the start of next session.
Technical session I on March 20, 2025 starts with a special Address by Dr. Alok Sharma, Director (R&D), IOCL, he enlightened on various processes in petroleum industries that emphasize on Green Chemistry and involvement of Chemistry fraternity in the thrust area of research. Followed by the plenary Lecture of Mr. Naresh Kumar, Vice President (Logging and Petrophysics), Reliance Industries Limited. He presented on the topic “CO2 Sequestration: Prospects & Challenges" where he highlights the utilization of carbon dioxide for various applications with divergent strategies. The first invited lecture was given by Prof. R.K. Sharma, Hindu College, University of Delhi on "Green Chemistry Network Centre: Accelerating Innovations in India" followed by a second invited lecture by Dr. Gaurav Pandey, UPES, Dehradun on "Shaping Tomorrow’s Energy: Breakthrough Gas Hydrate Technologies".
Session II started with a special address by Dr. Krishna Raghav Chaturvedi, Outreach Manager, ACS who engaged with research scholars and students regarding various opportunities and challenges in getting published and preparing research articles. He also addressed the student queries regarding availing fellowship/ sponsorship for participating in the abroad conferences. The first invited lecture of this session by Dr. D.K. Sharma, IIIT Delhi on "Green Chemical Technologies for Controlling Environmental Impacts" highlighted the various technologies in controlling the environmental impacts. He also shared his own experiences in handling the chemicals in the lab while performing research at IIT. The last invited lecture of the day was given by Prof. A.K. Gupta, Former GM, IOCL R&D on "Alternative Fuels for Cleaner Environment" followed by two oral presentations by researchers.
The day two of the conference started with an invited lecture by Dr. Arti Srivastava, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya on "Development of Green and Sustainable Modified Polymers" followed by the second and third invited lecture of the session by Dr. Nutan Sharma, SGT University on "Eco-Friendly Syntheses of Nitrogen Enriched Heterocycles" and Dr. Sudesh Kumar, NCERT on "Preparation of Lubricant from Hydrocarbon Oil Converted from Waste Plastic". Session IV started with the invited lecture byProf. (Dr.) Arun Arya, MS University of Baroda - "Eco-Friendly Technologies in Integrated Farming" followed by an invited lecture by Dr. Vinod Kumar, J.C. Bose University - "Green and Sustainable Chemistry using Ionic Liquids". The end of this session consists of oral presentations by seven research scholars and PG students on the topics focused on polymers, ionic liquids, corrosion inhibition, and eco-friendly composites.
In the valedictory session, the keynote lecture by Prof. Ram Sagar Misra, from school of physical sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi delivered on “Synthesis of Chirally Enriched Pyrazolylpyrimidinone and Imidazopyrimidinones based Glycohybrids via Annulation reactions with Glycals”. Professor has highlighted that this protocol demonstrated a broad substrate scope, successfully incorporating various functional groups with stereochemical diversity, and furnishing chirally enriched molecules. The valedictory session was followed by award of Best oral and Best poster presenters with cash prize of Rs. 2500/- each and certificates which is sponsored by ACS Journals -Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Sustainable Resource Management, ACS Omega and ACS Environmental Au. The faculty efforts for organizing the conference were recognized by awarding of certificates to all faculty members of the Chemistry Department. A vote of thanks was given by Prof. Dr. S. K. Shukla with the closing remarks of the conference. All the speakers, students and delegates enjoyed the lunch afterwards.
GSCC 2025 successfully provided a platform for exchanging knowledge, promoting interdisciplinary research, and fostering collaborations to address environmental and sustainability challenges through green chemistry. School of Sciences (Physics Program), Manav Rachna University, hosted a two-day International Conference on Futuristic Materials (ICFM-2022) on December 8-9, 2022. The conference was jointly sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Govt. of India. ICFM-2022 provided a platform for sharing ideas on cutting-edge research in the domain of futuristic materials, broadly aimed at fulfilling the 17 sustainable development goals identified by the United Nations.
Prof. (Dr.) Venugopal Achanta (Director, CSIR-NPL, New Delhi) was the honorable chief guest. The conference encompassed 17 invited talks, 11 oral presentations and 34 poster presentations from over 100 delegates across the globe. Attendees included academicians and students from various renowned universities including Russian Academy of Sciences, Russia; KKU, Saudi Arabia; Dambi Dollo University, Ethiopia; DGIST, South Korea; NMRI, Japan; among others. Delegates from several Indian institutes such as NPL, New Delhi; NIT Hamirpur; NIT Rourkela; IUAC, New Delhi; IIT Delhi; UPES, Dehradun; and other central universities were also present.

Department of Chemistry, Manav Rachna University organized Green and Sustainable Chemistry Conference (GSCC 2019) on ‘Focusing on Sustainable Development for a Better Future’. The conference brought together experts, academicians, researchers, students, scientists and engineers, providing them a comprehensive platform to identify key environmental challenges and provide a range of short, medium and long term solutions and alternatives through application of Green Chemistry.
The two-day conference was replete with technical sessions by keynote speakers, along with 61 oral and poster presentations. The conference gave an opportunity to the participants for consultation and deliberation on the themes.
An International Conference on Sustainable Initiatives in Water Management was organized at Manav Rachna University, Faridabad in association with the Royal Society of Chemistry, London and Green Chemistry Network Centre (GCNC), Delhi University on 6th March 2018.
