BA Honours Economics (3 years)

The undergraduate program in Economics deals with the study and application of economic theory and economic decision making. Exposure to different sectors (Industry, Agriculture, Services) through the dissertation builds the analytical capacity of the students. The Department is committed to a liberal education philosophy and development of leadership skills in the field of economics. The program develops its students’ professional competencies and responsibilities and prepares them for a variety of careers as a proficient economist.

Criteria for Preparation of Merit List
  • Merit in MRNAT
  • Merit in Qualifying Exam
Minimum Eligibility Criteria Pass in 10+2 Examination / Equivalent Examination with at least 45% marks in aggregate in 5 subjects including English as compulsory subjects along with 4 subjects with the highest score out of the remaining subjects.

Note: MRIIRS now accepts Pearson Test Score for admission

The department offers a highly creative and enriching course curriculum blended with theoretical and practical aspects of economics. We carefully selected courses that offer diverse issues and also cover various optional elective courses for the students to harness the core skills in the subject. The department also offers various generic, inter-disciplinary and open electives courses from other streams such as management, liberal arts, sociology, and psychology, among others. We have industry driven curriculum-seeking and incorporating feedbacks from KPMG, Ernst and Young, Infosys, IHC Foundation and ORF Kolkata. In order to strengthen the foundation of applied research, we are in partnership with TERI SAS, TERI, IMPRI, RIS, IIFT, JNU and DSE.

MA Economics (2 years)

The courses offered at Masters’ level in the department are anticipated to support developing professionals and experts who would be able to apply economic reasoning in real-world issues. It would also expose students to the complexities, dynamics and challenges of current global economic scenarios. The course aims to build up skills for economic analysis and decision making. An emphasis on data analysis and interpretation throughout the course would also encourage critical thinking and logical reasoning. It would provide a learning platform for students thereby equip them with main tools of the professional economist who wish to pursue their career in national and international development agencies, government organizations, public administration, corporate sector, banking/non-banking financial institutions, non-governmental organizations, academic and policy research institutes as well as economic consultancies.

The students who have successfully completed their Bachelors of Economics at MRIIRS may be eligible to do their masters from University of Winnipeg, Canada as per the following:

  • To enter the first year of the program, students must have achieved a minimum
      CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, equivalent
      to “B” on a letter grade scale in the Economics (Honours) program at MRIIRS.
  • To progress to the second year of the program, students must achieve a minimum
      B-average and a minimum grade of C in their courses for the qualifying years.

Note: The eligibility criteria for the candidates qualified from IB Board or Cambridge International Examinations (IGCSE) shall be considered as specified below:
  • For IB Board: Students should have secured a minimum of 26 points/credits with a minimum of three subjects passed at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL).
  • For Cambridge International Examinations (IGCSE): Minimum % shall be the same as that for CBSE candidates. Candidates must be passed in minimum 5 subjects at ‘O’ level and minimum 2 subjects at ‘A’ level. These are mandatory to obtain equivalence certificates from AIU.
