The Department of Civil Engineering has incorporated research emphasis into the curriculum of both B. Tech and M.Tech(Civil Engineering). It involves integrating research-oriented courses, promoting independent research projects or capstone projects, and encouraging students to engage in real-world problem-solving through research. Latest advancements and case studies fostering critical thinking skills have also been part of teaching pedagogies of different courses. Students are also encouraged to explore innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in areas like sustainable construction, infrastructure resilience, and smart cities. This approach helps students develop a deeper understanding of the field and prepares them for contributing to advancements in civil engineering. Research projects undergoing in the Deptt are inclined towards sustainable construction materials, development of smart infrastructure systems, implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM), and exploring advanced construction techniques like 3D printing. Collaborations with technology companies and interdisciplinary projects is a constant endeavour.

Specific innovation initiatives undertaken by a Civil Engineering Department includes creating earthquake-resistant building designs, developing water management systems for urban areas, researching and implementing green construction practices, utilizing drone technology for surveying and monitoring construction sites, and working on projects related to smart cities and transportation systems. Additionally, the department focusses on improving construction safety through advanced monitoring systems and incorporating sustainable practices into construction projects.
