The postgraduate program in Economics is designed for comprehensive and in-depth study of Economics as a discipline at advanced level. It includes the study of economic theories with a blend of hands-on issues, quantitative techniques for analysis and applications to specific economic and public policy concerns.
These courses are anticipated to support developing professionals and experts who would be able to apply economic reasoning in real-world issues. It would also expose students to the complexities, dynamics and challenges of current global economic scenarios. The course aims to build up skills for economic analysis and decision making. An emphasis on data analysis and interpretation throughout the course would also encourage critical thinking and logical reasoning. It would provide a learning platform for students thereby equip them with main tools of the professional economist who wish to pursue their career in national and international development agencies, government organizations, public administration, corporate sector, banking/non-banking financial institutions, non-governmental organizations, academic and policy research institutes as well as economic consultancies.

The MA/M.Sc Applied Psychology programme lays an emphasis on understanding and applying psychology through experiential learning and hands on activities, apart from classroom learning. This includes the use of the The Human Lab, which is a Centre for Psychometric Assessment, Psychological Counseling, Psychotherapy & Training & Development at the Department of Applied Psychology.
The objective is to help the Applied Psychology student strengthen domain knowledge and to hone applied skills which are needed in the real world workplace.
- Carefully crafted Interdisciplinary Course Curriculum: The department of Economics offers highly creative and enriching course curriculum blended with theoretical and practical aspects of economics. We carefully selected courses that offer diverse issues and also cover various optional elective courses for the students to harness the core skills in the subject. The department also offers various generic, inter-disciplinary and open electives courses from other streams such as management, liberal arts, sociology, and psychology, among others. We have industry driven curriculum seeking and incorporating feedbacks from KPMG, Ernst and Young, Infosys, IHC Foundation and ORF Kolkata and in order to strengthen the foundation of applied research we are in partnership with TERI SAS, TERI, IMPRI, RIS, IIFT, JNU and DSE.
- Centre for Economic Policy Studies is the public policy research centre of the department. Under this centre students are exposed to a variety of secondary sources, papers, and research projects to complete high-quality projects and nurture to cultivate a research-inquiry mindset. Students are encouraged to write term papers and dissertations in their chosen field. We also teach students how to write research papers and assist them in improving their communication skills. We have course curriculum to offer application of statistical software and provide hands on experience in the state-of-the-art Centre for Economic policy Studies.
The students have a successful career in hospitals, clinical settings, working in school and colleges as counselors and also in corporate sectors as trainers and specialist in psychological assessments.
