The Biology of Viruses – Cladistics, CRISPR and COVID-19
In the series of the webinars, International Education Centre organized a webinar oriented on the Biology of Viruses-Cladistics, CRISPR and COVID-19. The audience comprised of Biotechnology faculties.
The expert guests of the day were Dr. Gurion Ang, Associate Lecturer, School of Biological Sciences, The University of Queensland, Australia
The web seminar explored the peculiar and fanciful world of viruses. The speaker, Dr. Gurion Ang took from the basics of virus world, their evolutionary and phylogenetic relevance, and their place in the tree of life (cladistics) to the beautiful structures they attain and the prerequisites for a successful infection.
The lecture was interesting as well as informative. The lecture further moved towards the advanced technologies being utilized to combat the infections. CRISPR-Cas technology was discussed to help offer solutions to pandemic situations.
