Manav Rachna in association with FSLE India conducted National conference on “Language and Literature: Transgressing Boundaries”

  • Several luminaries from the language and literature world graced the occasion with their presence
  • Compendium of 100 Abstracts were released on the occasion

The Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities (FMeH), under the flagship of Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies, in association with the Foundation for the Study of Literature and Environment (FSLE), India hosted a national conference on “Language and Literature: Transgressing Boundaries”.

Luminaries from the world of English language and literature graced the occasion and chaired VI Technical sessions during the conference, where 100 papers were presented and compiled into a compendium. The Compendium of 100 abstracts was released by the esteemed guests and dignitaries.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof Chander Mohan, Gen Secretary, Comparative Literature Association of India and the Guest of Honor, was Prof Anil Raina, Professor, Department of English, Panjab University.

Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr. M M Kathuria, Trustee, MREI; Dr N C Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIIRS; Mr R K Arora, Registrar, MRIIRS; Prof (Dr.) Neemo Dhar, Dean FMeH; Faculty members and students of the department.

Addressing the students, the Chief Guest Prof Chander Mohan, said that, “No matter which department we choose to work in, language and literature are always going to be with us. They are those components which act as the hub of knowledge.”

Dr N.C.Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIIRS congratulated the Dean and Faculty members for thinking beyond the usual and organizing a national conference on a subject which is so pertinent today.

The 6 technical sessions were chaired by Prof Chander Mohan, Prof Anil Raina, Prof TN Dhar, Prof Anup Beniwal, Prof Ram Niwas Sharma, and Prof Roshan Lal Sharma.

The valedictory address was delivered by Prof Anup Beniwal, Professor of English, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Dr Shivani Vashist, HoD, English department, delivered the vote of thanks.

For the students, it was a learning experience as they heard well known dignitaries from the field of language and literature share their knowledge and thoughts. The students were reassured that literature and language have the power to cross boundaries and build bridges to knit society.
