MHRD Innovation Cell organized a webinar as a live YouTube session on 4th May 2020 from 3 PM to 4 PM. The Leadership Talk was delivered by Dr. Pankaj Parashar, Founder & CEO of Cutting-edge Technology Pvt. Ltd., Indore, on the topic: “Product Design and Engineering for Developing a Product, a Start-up’s perspective”.

Faculty members and Students of Manav Rachna University attended the session. The session was very insightful and informative as he discussed product design and development from an Innovator and Entrepreneur’s perspective.

Dr. Parashar started the session with the definition of Entrepreneur as the person who organizes manages and assumes risks of a business or enterprise and he defined technopreneurship as technology-based entrepreneurship. He mentioned the list of successful talented entrepreneurs like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, Paytm and Flipkart founders etc. The journey of Entrepreneurship he compared with roller coaster ride.

He took examples of few well-designed products like Apple iPhone, and Lamborghini Centenario etc.

Dr. Parashar then talked about his journey as an innovator, technopreneur, and startup founder for designing and manufacturing medical diagnostic devices on the cutting edge technology. He picked up the problem statement on the suffering of 317 million people of India from Proteinuria which gives rise to diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, chronic kidney disease, pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), malnutrition.

He invented SCINTIGLO which is a smart point of care diagnostic device for quantitative estimation of protein in the urine. Its accuracy is more than 95% and gives instant results in 2-3 seconds and it is not a strip device. Data logging and 2 way communication happens through a smartphone and the cost is just a fraction compared to Rs. 150-650 per test. Today this device can be used for patients in-home monitoring mode, ASHA workers can serve millions of pregnant women with PIH. So it is an innovation which solves the societal problem. He told the story of how he started with a proof of concept for this product design and kept refining the prototype from version 2.0 and then evolving through iterative steps of refinement to reach version 7.0 today. Dr. Parashar made the whole session very interesting and motivational for young students who want to be an innovator and entrepreneur in the future.
