ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Centenary Programme (Faridabad Chapter) inaugurated at Manav Rachna

Faridabad Chapter of Vikram Sarabhai Centenary Programme (VSCP) organized to commemorate the centenary birth year of Dr. Vikram A Sarabhai, Indian Space Research Organization – ISRO was inaugurated today at Manav Rachna campus. Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, VC- Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies; Dr. K. Shahana, Head- Delhi Earth Station; Dr. Rajeev Sharma, Scientist, Department of Science & Technology (DST), GoI; and Dr. G. Srinivasan, Head, RRSC- North and Chairman- Organizing Committee, ISRO inaugurated the programme.

The three-day programme (20 Nov- 22 Nov) includes a series of events/competitions wherein school and college students as well as teachers can actively participate. The first day saw the inauguration of the grand space exhibition followed by Painting Competition (Grade VI-VIII), Solve the Challenge, Pick & Speak Competition, Space Club Activities, Video Shows, and Lectures on Indian Space Programme, Remote Sensing, Space Applications etc. Technical lectures were delivered by Dr. Imtiyaz Ali Khan, OSD, ISRO and Dr. K. Shahana, Head- Delhi Earth Station.

The exhibition includes models of various ISRO initiatives including Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2; and presentation of ‘Anatomy of a Rocket’, Liquid Rocket Engine Stages’, ‘Indian Regional National Satellite System’, ‘Second Rocket Launch Pad- Sriharikota’, ‘Reusable Launch Vehicle’, and ‘Scramjet Engine Technology Demonstrator’. The exhibition also showcases the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking, Command Network and Master Control Facility.

Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) said, “Manav Rachna has been diligently working towards innovation and research for years now and has been one of the pioneers in the sector. Owing to this background, ISRO has chosen Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies in Faridabad to host VSCP. We wish to support ISRO in this initiative and beyond to allow students explore the space technology’.

The next two days will witness the students participating in several quizzes, video shows and lectures. The programme aims to encourage students towards space technology and guide them on the path to build up their career in space. It also gives a glistening opportunity to young kids to interact with eminent space scientists.

On November 22, 2019, ‘Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Lecture’ will be delivered by Padma Shri M. Chandra Dathan, Distinguished Scientist of ISRO and Former Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO and Former Director SDSC, SHAR & LPSC, ISRO.
