International Women’s Day Celebrations Weekend

Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities organized an International Women’s Day Celebrations Weekend online for the students of FMeH recently. The main objective of the event was to explore and nurture the talent of our students and to assess their sensitivity to the cause of women.

The events started with an inspiring talk by Ms. Manali Jain, Additional District Commissioner. She is currently posted as Additional District Magistrate, Kamrup, and has vast experience in civil administration as well as in academic pursuits. Twice a gold medalist in B.A and M.A English literature, she has many publications to her name in prestigious forums.

To celebrate this special day, the next event was a Poster Making Competition which saw the participation of more than 20 students. The students excelled in their art and imagination and showed their sensitivity towards the issues of women. They also beautifully explained their posters and shared their views on the various issues affecting women. The competition was coordinated by Dr. Jayashree Hazarika. The judge Dr. Sujata announced the following winners:

1st – Anchal Rathi, from B.A (H) English 6th sem

2nd – Niyati Kapoor, from B.A (H) English 6th sem

3rd – Anjali Aggarwal, from B.A(H) English 4th sem

The next event was a Cue Card competition in which around 15 students participated. Participants chose their topics along with a picture of a great Women personality who has inspired them. The students expressed their thoughts and views on the selected personality and showed their sensitivity towards the issues of women.

1st – Mansa Panigrahi, from B.A. (H) English 4th sem

2nd – Aman Kakkar, from B.A. (H) English 6th sem

3rd – Namya Sharma, from B.A. ( H) English 4th sem

This was followed by a Webinar on the topic ‘Women In Leadership’ which was jointly organized in association with RootSkills. Speakers of the webinar were Ms. Meenu Goyal- Author and Life Coach; Sh. Ankit Kumar- Founder, Care Needy Foundation; and Sh. Gaurav Goyal- Owner, Gopal 66 ice- cream. The speakers spoke on the leadership skills of women which are displayed in their engagements in – such as CEOs, legislature, courts etc. The deliberations stressed achieving a gender-neutral society and on providing a safe environment for women to come forward in their leadership roles.
