Faculty Visit at IIITD for attending RIISE

The faculty members of ECE Department, Mr. Bhanu Pratap Chaudhary, Mr. Lokesh Bhardwaj and Mr. Vijay Gill visited IIIT Delhi on January 31, 2020, for the Research Innovation and Incubation Showcase (RIISE). The idea behind RIISE aims to bring together with the stakeholders from government agencies, industry and academia.

There were several parallel sessions on the topical themes of Digital Health, Human-Centered Design, Information Security, Internet of Things and Sustainability along with the paper presentations of research work performed by students of IIITD and other institutes of Delhi and NCR.

The faculty members attended the panel discussion on the Internet of Things which was focused on Future IoT applications. The panel members for the discussion were, Alok Mittal, Sr. Group Manager, STMicroelectronics Pvt. Ltd, Rajeev Shorey, Principal Scientist/Researcher at TCS Innovation Labs, Cincinnati/Bangalore, and Adjunct Faculty, Department of CSE, IIT Delhi, Subodh Gajare, Chief Architect, SDN, Cloud, IoT, and Mobility – Cisco R&D Center (Bangalore), Sumit J Darak, Assistant Professor (ECE), IIITD.

The panel members presented their views on Future IoT applications. As we all know that future IoT applications anticipate an explosion in the plethora of use-cases and services, which cannot be sustained by incremental improvements on the existing CPS technologies.

On the one hand, applications such as virtual and augmented reality require high-speed access links, whereas on the other, use-cases such as critical control and disaster search and rescue, need hi-fidelity ultra-reliable systems often working at lower speeds. The panel members also discussed the challenges that industries are currently facing for the implementation in IoT.
