Workshop on Application of Mathematics & Statistics in Weather Forecasting and Allied Sciences

A workshop Titled “Application of Mathematics & Statistics in Weather Forecasting and Allied Sciences” was organized by the Department of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies on 28th January, 2022, Friday from 02:00 pm onwards. The workshop was conducted on MS-Teams platform. The Eminent speaker of the event was Dr. Shashi Kant, Scientist C, National Weather Forecasting Centre (NWFC), O/o Director General Meteorology India Meteorological Department, New Delhi.    

The event started at 2:00 p.m. on Microsoft Teams by Dr. Kapil Gupta Coordinator of the workshop and Dr. Pooja Khurana, Moderator of the event welcomed all the esteemed dignitaries, expert speaker and participants. 

Dr. Jyoti Chawla, Head of department, Applied Sciences, FET,  MRIIRS shared her words of wisdom by welcoming the eminent speaker and thanked him for giving his kind consent to share his knowledge with the MR family. She inspired and motivated the participants by introducing the objective of the workshop and its applications in real life. The session was joined by more than 250 participants including faculty and students of Manav Rachna University.

The session was initiated by welcoming the dignified speaker Dr. Shashi Kant, Scientist C for the day and introducing him to the participants. During the session he shared his knowledge with the participants on the topic and updated them with current information, where he showered his blessings on participants with his gentle and encouraging words. He also shared his PPT through which he enlightened the participants about the topic and went on to discuss about Objective of Weather Forecasting, Some Primitive Equations, Use of Mathematics  in Weather Forecasting which includes: The computational issue,-Error in approx and estimate,-Computation error,-Data availability,-Error in data condition and many more.

While heading towards the end of the workshop participants actively asked questions related to the topic to clear their doubts and expand their spectrum of knowledge.

A feedback form was also shared with the participants to know their perspective regarding the conduct of the event and an E-certificate was provided to all the participants who filled the feedback form.

At the end, a vote of thanks was presented to the guest and the participants by Dr. Deepak Kumar, Professor, Department of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Technology. He thanked the resource person for their valuable contribution towards the great success of the workshop and appreciated the efforts of all faculty members of the department who put in efforts for making this workshop a success. He also acknowledged the all kind support of senior functionaries of MRIIRS.

The workshop turned out to be a quite knowledgeable session as it provided the required insight of the topic to participants. The efforts of the guest speaker and coordination team of the department of Applied Sciences were appreciated by the participants. To conclude it was a very informative session which aimed at imparting participants with the latest information. The session was smoothly conducted and the participants were quite enthusiastic.
