Swami Vivekananda Jayanti Celebration : 12th Jan 2016

Department of Students Welfare, Manav Rachna celebrated the 153rd Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda on the 12th of January in AT 15-16. The writings and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda were written and exhibited in the venue along with his portraits made by the students which added to the aura of celebration of the event. Raghu Verma (CSE 1st year, FET, MRIU) moderated the event. He shared a brief background about Swami Vivekananda. As a part of the event a short video was played which showed the most famous speech of Swami Vivekananda. It was a re-creation of his speech at Parliament of World’s Religion in Chicago in 1893.
A few faculty members from Faculty of Engineering and Technology also gave their views on how the teachings of the saint affected and changed their life. Dr. Kalpana Varshney (Chemistry Department) shared a story about how Swami Vivekananda even as a boy disregarded irrational disbeliefs. Mr. Sandeep Shrivastava (Physics Department) shared with us how he felt that Swami Vivekananda preached to be a good human being. Mr. Ram Pravesh (Automobile Department) talked about the two ways in which we can achieve better, i.e. by first: Removing the masks that we carry and seeing our true face and then second by: Changing the map.
Siddharth Singh, 6th semester student of Mechanical Department, FET, MRIU shared how important it is to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda for the modern youth. He shared that even in his speeches Swami Vivekananda preached humanism. Ragini Sharma, 4th year BDS student from MRDC, shared an experience from her life where the teachings of Swami Vivekananda helped her solve the problem and see a way out. She believes that since his birthday is celebrated as the National Youth Day, the youth of today on this occasion should strive to be better than the past and set an example for the future generations so that they too can benefit and learn from the great teacher himself.
Professor I.K. Kilam, Dean Student Welfare, shared a poem “My Play is done” by Swami Vivekananda. The poem described how he saw life and how his life was going up and down like waves and how he requests his teacher to free him from his earthly bonds and set him free.
An essay writing and sketching competition was also organized. Students from various faculties actively participated. All the participants will be provided with the Certificates of Appreciation and prizes on the Republic Day Celebration.
In addition to this, FMS and FMeH celebrated Swami Vivekanand Jayanti by screening a short documentary on Swami Vivekananda and an essay / poem writing competition on Vivekananda’s idea “Dare to be Free”. Radio Manav Rachna mentioned about the celebration repeatedly to its listeners in regular intervals and played a recorded program by Dr. S. Banerjee on the teachings and aspiration of Swami Vivekananda.
