Regional Seminar on Commodity Derivatives

Manav Rachna Educational Institutions has always encouraged events in the direction of student development and making them aware of the contemporary issues in management.

In this direction to bridge the gap between the industry and academia, FMS, MRIIRS in association with SEBI, New Delhi and MCX, New Delhi conducted a seminar on 28 January, 2020. More than 120 MBA students participated in this event.  

Resource persons for the day were Ms. Veena Kumari, Manager SEBI, New Delhi and Mr. Vinit Singh Kaler, Sr. Manager Training and Education, MCX, New Delhi. Ms. Veena talked about the changing perspective of the financial markets with the rising Ponzi schemes, frauds and prevention mechanism to curb them at the earliest possible to safeguard the interest of small investors. With practical examples, she shared the complications faced with the reconstruction of assets while keeping the interest of the investors intact.

Mr. Vinit emphasized on the working of MCX and the opportunities available in this area, which is at a nascent stage in India. The upcoming financial instruments in line with the equity markets and indices, he emphasized on the rising participation of banks and their subsidiaries in this direction. With the introduction of commodity indices, more future and options products in commodities markets are expected. He suggested students take an interest in the area to plan a career in this upcoming field of finance and marketing.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Bhavesh P. Joshi, Prof. Riddhi Khattar, Mr. Manoj Jha, Ms. Manisha Grover and MBA students. As a closing note, the presenter was of the opinion to plan for such interactive events in future and visits to their premises in New Delhi and Mumbai.
