Indo-Japanese Cultural Meet between Manav Rachna and Seikei University, Japan


Oracle volunteers and ICT academy invited Manav rachna University to be a part of an international cultural exchange event and nominate students for presentation and participation in understanding and appreciating Indian-Japanese culture. 

25 students were shortlisted from Manav Rachna University and Manav Rachna International Institute of  Research and Studies to participate in the cultural meet. The exchange was conducted between students of Manav Rachna University in India and Seikei University in Japan.

Professor (Dr.) Fuhito Endo – Director of Seikei Institute for International Studies; Midori Kawamukai, Senior Manager, Corporate Citizenship, Oracle, JAPAC; Mr. B. Raghava Srinivasan – Head, Education Initiatives, ICT Academy and Prof. (Dr.) D.S. Sengar – Pro Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University were the key speakers for the day.

The key objective of this session was to help students understand and appreciate Indian and Japanese culture. The event was held in 2 sessions where session 1 included Presentation and Q&A round and session 2 was a group discussion round.

The event was moderated by Dr. Peter Evans of Seikei University who welcomed the speakers and the students. Prof. (Dr.) Fuhito Endo provided the opening remarks followed by Midori Kawamukai. 

Prof. (Dr.) D.S. Sengar – Pro Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University represented India and highlighted the role of culture from an Indian perspective. He further mentioned the possible outcomes of this Indo-Japanese cultural meet and invited them to visit India to experience the beauty of Indian Heritage. He further shared his experience of witnessing the famous Cherry Blossom festival on his earlier visit to Japan.

For the first session, two students from Manav Rachna, Chirag Varshney and Durga Bhardwaj were shortlisted to represent Indian culture. They presented the key highlights of Indian culture to Japanese students and answered their queries, followed by attending the presentation prepared by two students from Seikei University, Higashi Shimizu and Wakana Yasukouchi. 

For the second session, group discussion between the students was conducted. Ten breakout rooms with five students each were formulated to help students understand each other’s culture. 

Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Varshney – Dean Research, Manav Rachna University expressed his desire for future collaboration with Seikei university in research and development. He also invited the Japanese representatives to visit Manav Rachna University and experience the diverse culture here.
