Orientation Program for the PhD Scholars

The student Orientation Program marks the beginning of their journey into the university. The primary purpose of a University orientation program is to help the new entrants understand the nature of the University, the educational opportunities available to them, the values, functions and the Infrastructure of the University. Keeping this in mind, an Orientation program was conducted for the PhD Scholars of MRIU Batch 2016-17. The orientation program of the Ph.D Scholars commenced with a pious Havan ceremony. Dr. NK Chadha, Chairperson and Head Research and Doctoral Program along with head of other departments and all the supervisors and scholars of Ph.D. Program participated in the ceremony. The auspicious Havan was followed by commencement of the formal programme.

The Programme began with lamp lighting by Dr. N.C Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIU, the Chief Guest of the day, Dr Aruna Sharma, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, GOI and the other dignitaries.  The lamp lighting ceremony was followed by welcome addresses and sharing of words of wisdom to apprise the scholars of the nitty gritties of the program. Also present on the occasion were Dr. M.M Kathuria, Trustee, MREI; Dr. M.K Soni, Executive Director and Dean, FET, MRIU; Dr. Naresh Grover, Dean Academics, MRIU; Dr. Chavi Bhargava Sharma, Dean and Director, FMS, MRIU.

Dr. Naresh Grover opened the session with an overview presentation on the structure of the PhD program comprising of 8 phases. Dr. N.K. Chadha shared his Mantra, Experiences and Thoughts which were really insightful. This was followed by the welcome address by Dr M.K. Soni. In his welcome address, Hon’ble, VC, Dr. NC Wadhwa encouraged the scholars for research and innovation through their work as this is the only way to reduce the gap between industry and academia. He also emphasized that the scholars should be determined to finish their work in stipulated time. The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Aruna Sharma, congratulated the new entrants and also encouraged the PhD Scholars with her words of wisdom. She emphasised on quality research and also on the fact that students should stick to their time table and start framing their research questions now. She told that Research should be performed without plagiarism.

Dr. M.M Kathuria welcomed the new entrants and asked them to be passionate about their work and come up with something new thereby bringing laurels not only to their institution but to the society at large. Mr. Vikram Sharma, Head librarian, O.P Bhalla Central Library gave a presentation on the use of library resources and the use of anti-plagiarism software. Scholars were then taken on a campus tour to familiarize them with the University’s infrastructure.
