National Oral Hygiene Day is celebrated by the Department of Periodontology

National Oral Hygiene Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the Department of Periodontology on 8th August 2023. The day is commemorated to honor the birth anniversary of Dr. GB Shankwalkar, the founder of the Indian Society of Periodontology.

The department organized a talk by an expert in the field, Dr. HS Grover (Secretary, Indian Society of Periodontology), to raise awareness about periodontal health and its impact on overall systemic condition. The topic of the presentation was “Periodontal Health: The Pivot of Human Wellness.” The lecture commenced with words of wisdom from our principal, Dr. Puneet Batra. The lecture was well-received by all attendees. The Head of the Department, Dr. Pooja Palwankar, presented a token of appreciation to Dr. HS Grover for sharing his valuable knowledge.

A poster and reel competition were held on the theme provided by the Indian Society of Periodontology, “The EcoDontist – Creating Smiles, Extending Awareness.”

The department conducted a campaign offering free oral prophylaxis for the teaching faculty at MRIIRS. Patients were encouraged to maintain oral hygiene by receiving complimentary samples. Education for patients was facilitated using HALEON and ICPA-sponsored plaque-detecting devices, accompanied by a video presentation organized by the department itself, showcasing oral hygiene methods, in the OPD area. All patients were provided with free samples of desensitizing toothpaste, toothbrushes, oral ulcer healing gels, etc.

Furthermore, a certificate of appreciation was awarded to Sakshi Sharma, an intern at MRDC, for achieving the highest marks in the subject of Periodontology in the final university examination.
