On January 19th, 2024, Manav Rachna Dental College and Hospital buzzed with intellectual discourse as the institution hosted a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) program on “Digital Imaging: Trends & Recent Advances.” This valuable session, a part of the university’s ongoing endeavor to provide value-added courses, welcomed esteemed guest speaker Dr. Sharad Sahai, a seasoned Consultant Radiologist and Director at DMD Diagnostics.

Dr. Sahai, boasting over 12 years of experience and having overseen the interpretation of over 50,000 CBCT scans and 100,000 panoramic radiographs, shed light on the intricacies of deciphering CBCT and other digital images. His insights shed light on the technological field of dental imaging, emphasizing the crucial role of artificial intelligence in reconstructing data and facilitating accurate diagnoses.

The event, encompassing 66 postgraduate students and faculty members, fostered a dynamic environment for knowledge exchange. Dr. Sahai adeptly navigated through various clinical scenarios where complications could arise, underscoring the critical role of advanced imaging modalities like CBCT in ensuring high precision, particularly in procedures like root canal therapy and implant surgery. These procedures demand meticulous consideration of dimensional accuracy and surrounding tissue health, down to a breathtaking 0.1% margin.

Participants actively engaged in case-based discussions related to CBCT interpretation, further enriching the learning experience. The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Sumit Bateja, Professor & Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, and closing remarks from Dr. Pankaj Dhawan, acknowledging the contributions of both Dr. Sahai and the participating postgraduate students.
