Workshop On Intellectual Property Rights Awareness

 

Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) and Haryana State Council for Science & Technology jointly organized a workshop on ‘Intellectual Property Rights Awareness’ to raise awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) among the present generation.
The eminent resource persons of the workshop included Dr. Yashawant Dev Panwar, Scientist E, Patent Facilitation Centre, TIFAC, Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi; Ms. Avipsha Thakur, Assistant Vice-President, Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India; and Mr. NilanshuShekhar, IPR Consultant.
Dr. Pradeep K. Varshney,Director, Manav Rachna Innovation and Incubation Centre (MRIIC) delivered the opening speech by highlighting the importance, history and a few major facts about the IPR. Dr. Patrali Banerjee, Associate Prof & IPR Head, Manav Rachna brought the IPR Cell of Manav Rachna to the limelight, and how serious Manav Rachna is towards its approach towards IPR. Further highlighting the importance of patents and IPR, Dr. M.K. Soni, Pro Vice Chancellor, MRIIRSsaid, “It is essential to ensure whether our specific idea is unique or not by investigating domestic as well international patents”. Further Dr. Krishna Kant,ED & Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, MRIIRS emphasized on the awareness to be spread about IPR.

During the technical session, Ms. Avipsha Thakur spoke about the “National IPR Policy” and emphasized the  importance of IPR awareness at college and student level. She also highlighted the readiness of the Govt. to train the students to spread the IPR awareness at school level and opportunities for students to undergo internship at CIPAM.
Shri YashawantPanwar informed the audience about the various types of patents that can be registered in India and

 

how one can attain copyright, trademark, geographical indications, etc. He also challenged the Computer Science students to develop a program to screen the Patents in real-time to improve the Patent filing process in India, and advised the Academic Institutions to evaluate all the research articles and Dissertations for innovation and patentability before going public. Mr. NilanshuShekhar spoke about the patent processes relevant to Biology.
The technical session was followed by the Panel discussion. The esteemed panelists were Mr. YashawantPanwar, Mr. NilanshuShekhar and Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal, IPR Consultant. The session was moderated by Dr. ShilpaChapdgaonkar, Head, Molecular Bioscience Cluster, MRIIC. Many questions related to technicalities of patents like patentability of innovations etc and patenting system were posed which were duly clarified by the panel members.
The panel discussion ended with a conclusion that all the Higher Education Institutions should scan the research articles for innovation, novelty and patentability.
