Students and faculties from Department of Hotel Management (Manav Rachna International Institute of Research & Studies) attended a webinar on Sommelier that was conducted by Algonquin College, Canada. The session was taken by Ms. Marie France
Marie-France graduated from the Sommelier program at Algonquin College in 2012. She pursued her studies with the WSET Advanced Certificate and became a French Wine Scholar in 2015. She is the Vice-President of the National Capital Sommelier Guild.
The session started with an informative presentation on the history of wines and viniculture, focusing first on terroir which is a set of all environmental factors that affect a crop’s epigenetic qualities, when the crop is grown in a specific habitat.
This session was conducted in order to inculcate practical knowledge of wines among the students. They were briefed about the methods of procuring and creating wine, the process of tasting, and various flavors, serving specifications and pairing with different types of food.
The session concluded with an open interactive session where students and faculties queries were answered.
