Webinar-Artificial Intelligence in Autonomous Mobile Robotics

In the series of the webinars, International Education Centre organized a webinar on the topic of Artificial Intelligence in Autonomous Mobile Robotics. The audience comprised Computer Science Engineering students and faculties of MRIIRS and MRU.

The expert guest of the day was Dr Masoumeh (Iran) Mansouri, Lecturer in School of Computer Science of the University of Birmingham.

The webinar started with a brief introduction to Dr. Masoumeh (Iran) Mansouri and her area of research as Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (KR&R) for Robotics with a primary focus on hybrid reasoning that integrates automated task and motion planning, scheduling, as well as temporal and spatial reasoning.

Her goal is twofold: to combine heterogeneous representations for the purpose of obtaining “hybrid” KR formalisms that are able to express the many nuances of real-world robotics problems, and to develop efficient methods for reasoning with these formalisms.

She talked about their research projects on making drilling process autonomous in a construction site project wherein robots need to take care of the speed of motion for uncertainties like snowfall, rain etc. The examples of a competent waiter robot, caretaker robot and a robot doing polishing were very interesting. Their whole research objective is to make highly intelligent robots.

The Session was useful for students to gain an insight of capability which can be built into intelligent robots and the power of AI techniques where the aim is to build computational artefacts to mimic the human level decision making and not just learning from data which machine learning does. The session was followed with Q&A round with faculty members and students. Students could get the information on eligibility criteria for admission to programs of the University.
