In accordance with the recommendations and directions of Chief Electoral Officer, Government of Haryana, National Voters’ Day was celebrated on 25th January 2017 at all the educational institutions in the state. The day was celebrated at MRIU with full gravity and seriousness befitting the occasion.
The National Voters Day commemorates the foundation day of Election Commission of India, 25-01-1950.This day is celebrated since 2011 to spread awareness, to register each and every eligible voter in the electoral roll and to encourage participation in the election process thereby urging the people to undertake a ‘pledge to vote’. The theme for this year is ‘Empowering Young & Future Voters’.
All the Faculties of MRIU participated in the celebrations. The Faculty of Applied Science was led by Dr. G L Khanna, Dean FAS, who exhorted the students especially the young students who have recently embarked on their journey of responsible adulthood. The inspiring speech was followed by the undertaking of Voters Pledge. The students were administered the pledge by Mrs. Gurjeet Chawla, Assoc. Prof., FAS. The departments of FAS were represented through the respective HoDs, Dr. Pooja Anand and Dr. Pratibha Singh.
