Visit To Jamia Milia Islamia, New Delhi

In view of the growing need of recent developments in the field of physiotherapy, 20 students of Masters Of Physiotherapy from Dept. of Physiotherapy, FAS visited Centre For Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Sciences, Jama Milia Islamia on 18/11/13. The centre provides excellence in education in field of physiotherapy.

The visit was focused to Ansari Health Centre, an iconic centre in the JMI which has well equipped laboratory for carrying out practical work in basic medical sciences and state of art facilities for physiotherapy practices.

The students were accompanied by Assistant Professors Dr. Shishir Nigam and Dr. Pinki, FAS, MRIU. The visit was facilitated by Dr. M. Ejaz Ahmed, Professor and Director , CPRS, JMI and was well co-ordinated by Masters Of Sports Physiotherapy students.

The visit helped students to widen their horizons and update themselves with the equipments to study electrical activity of muscle, hemodynamic parameters ( power lab AD instruments) for cardio vascular research and polysonograph equipment for studying human sleep and exercise evaluation system.

Dr. Shubra Karmakar, Assistant Prof. enlightened students with the thorough knowledge of theoretical practical aspects of exercise physiology. The students actively participated in the practical demonstrations and added funds to their knowledge in:
Electromyograph (EMG) – technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles.

VO2 max – the maximum capacity of an individual’s body to transport and use oxygen during incremental exercise, which reflects the physical fitness of the individual.

The students also visited sleep research laboratory and were briefed about the basic physiology of sleep cycle by Dr. Ejaz. The practical demonstration of the evaluation of sleep cycle and the instrument was provided by Dr. Dilshad, PhD Scholar , JMI. This session proved to be more motivated and enriched experience for students to rethink in widened horizons. Visit to CPRS, JMI provided insight and exposure to students in enriching their knowledge about the recent advances in the field of physiotherapy. This informative visit also facilitated an interaction between students and promoted inter institutional interaction.
