Students of Nutrition and Dietetics Win Accolades at International Conference

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS), Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) participated in an International Conference on ‘Women’s Work & Occupational Health- Emerging Issues, Challenges & Policy Measures in the Unorganized Sector’ which was held on 24th-25th March 2018 at Arya PG College, Panipat (Haryana), India. The seminar was designed to focus on the unorganized sector of women workers in all fields. Although women effectively contribute to their family earnings but they are still the marginalized ones.

The aim of the seminar was to review working conditions of these women and to highlight occupational hazards and difficulties regarding economic as well as status roles. During the seminar, innovative and feasible strategies were discussed and possible support for the welfare of these women.

There were total of 10 themes under which 201 papers were presented under the category of oral and poster presentation. The seminar gave an opportunity to the students to know about the real world of women workers and their problems.

Ms. Shuchita Anand won the best oral paper award for her delivery while Ms. Simran Kapoor won the best poster award under the theme: Quality of living and incidences of poverty of women workers in the unorganised sector. Both the achievers are the students of M.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics, MRIIRS. Ms. Shuchita Anand’s oral delivery was on “A comparative study on quality of life, physical activity and dietary profile of working and non-working females’ while Ms. Simran Kapoor’s poster reflected upon “A comparative study on quality of life among working women of government and private sectors”. They were awarded with mementos and certificate.

The conference was well attended by many dignitaries from all across India and international platforms like Kenya, Zimbabwe, University of South Africa and many more. PhD scholars and professors from Government and Private Colleges and Universities also presented their research papers.
