Postgraduate students from Department of Prosthodontics, Manav Rachna Dental College attended a lecture and workshop on Alveoler Ridge Preservation techniques by Geistlich Biomaterials at New Delhi recently. The event was a whole day lecture cum hands-on affair. The key note speaker of the workshop was Dr. Mauricio Araujo, Periodontist from Brazil. Dr. Araujo, with his co-workers, has published groundbreaking research in the fields of ridge alteration following tooth extraction.
The entire programme was divided into 4 sessions and began with a lecture on Ridge Preservation vs. Ridge Augmentation. Second part of the lecture dealt with Atraumatic Extraction Techniques. He emphasized on the use of Periotomes in atraumatic extractions to preserve the buccal and lingual cortical plates. Third session was conducted on Socket healing vs. Grafted Socket healing. Clinical cases related to grafted socket healing and immediate implant placement were shown and emphasis was laid on grafting the extraction socket. This was followed by a Workshop on Ridge Augmentation techniques.
It was a great learning experience for the students as it helped them gain the knowledge of ridge preservation and handling various ridge defects.
