Roope Sippola, Viivi Anttonen and Teemu, B. Tech students of Lahti University awarded Project completion certificates

Roope Sippola, Viivi Anttonen and Teemu, students of B. Tech, Lahti University of Applied Sciences (LUAS,Finland), were awarded Completion Certificates on successful completion of their project (September 1, 2016-January 24, 2017) on the themes of waste management, urban development and environmental sustainability at Manav Rachna University, They were awarded the Certificates by Professor Dr. Sanjay Srivastava Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University.

The project was supervised by Prof. (Dr.) Rajat Gera, Department of Management and Commerce and Prof Ms. Meena Kapahi, Department of Applied Sciences. Their guide for the project was Dr Pia , LUAS, Finland

The project was initiated with meetings with government officials and field study of the rural and urban waste management system, smart city projects, and CSR activities of Faridabad with assistance of ADC office, Chief engineer office (secretariat) and O P Bhalla Foundation. Based on their survey and identified gaps in waste management system in Faridabad district, they subsequently decided to focus on the following sub themes of rural waste management
-development and user testing of low cost and micro composting tumbler for organic waste management
-Concept testing of a Dry toilet for individual households
-communication evaluation of media and content effectiveness for creating awareness amongst school children about waste management

Their project ideas, concepts and prototypes were tested with residents and students at Mohna Village with support of Dr O. P. Bhalla Foundation

They also designed and developed two low cost composting tumblers which have been installed in the MRU campus and at the Dr. OP Bhalla Community Centre (Mohna village).
As part of their acculturation, the students conducted cleanliness campaigns in Government Boys and Govt. Girls Schools at Mohna village which was appreciated by the school authorities. The school children enthusiastically participated in the campaigns.
During their six months sojourn at MRU, they participated in various cultural (Christmas, Diwali, Russian Ballad) and institutional activities and became part of the MREI family.
