Project Revival of Pond in Mohna Village

A team comprised of Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Varshney (Director MRIIC), Prof. (Dr.) B.M. Bahal (Dean Research, MRU & Head, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences cluster, MRIIC), Mr. D.C. Chaudhary (Education Consultant, Dr O.P. Bhalla Foundation) and Ms. Meena Kapahi (Associate Professor, MRU & Member, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences cluster, MRIIC) visited Mohna Village to explore the possibility of Pond Revival (Chitra Ki Pokhar) located near Boys Sr. Sec. School. The pond has almost dried up due to shrunken and blocked storm water drains meant for diverting water to the pond.  Manav Rachna team met with Sh. Ranjit, village Sarpanch, and residents of the village. The residents expressed their concern for the barren and dehydrated condition of this water body, which once served as the biggest source of water for the village. MR team conducted a preliminary survey to prepare a report on the same before the final revival process. The team has taken samples to analyse the physicochemical and biological status of pond soil and water. The testing of soil samples has been done at Karnal lab. Based on initial reports, a proposal will be made for sending to PMO office for grant.
