Parent Teacher Meet at FCBS

Department of Commerce, Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies (FCBS), organized a Parent-Teacher Meet recently. The main objectives of the meet were to craft a common podium where faculty members and parents may come together to enrich the students’ learning practice and discuss matters regarding all round growth of the students.

Thirty-Two Parents were present on the day along with their wards. Dr. S.K. Bedi, Dean, FCBS and Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) addressed the parents and advised them to be connected with the department to know about the progress of their ward. Dr. N. C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor, MRIIRS asked the parents not to hesitate in sharing their problems and to keep a regular watch on the progress of their wards. He also advised the parents to give freedom up to some extent to their children to enable them to take decisions about their career.

Dr. Jayender Verma, HoD, Department of Commerce gave a warm welcome to the parents. Ms. Nidhi Tandon gave a presentation on departmental affairs. She explained various aspects of curriculum of the various programmes of the department, extra and co-curricular activities, teaching pedagogies, students’ evaluation criteria and related matters. Ms. Kanupriya from Career Development Centre interacted with the parents about various add-on courses offered by the university and their benefits to the students. Dr. Gaurav Sood and Dr. Stuti from FMS gave them an insight about the different MBA Programmes offered at FMS. Dr. Priyanka Shrivastva explained the M.Com. Programme, being offered to the students after their graduation at Department of Commerce, FCBS. Ms. Teena Hassija discussed the benefits and career path of the students from the proposed collaboration with Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). Ms. Ratika Agarwal also interacted about the various short term courses offered to the students by BSE Institute Ltd.

Parents were highly satisfied with the session as they found it very informative and beneficial for the career of their wards. There were healthy discussions between parents and faculty members throughout the Meet. Many parents raised queries which were handled collectively by all the faculty members of the department. Parents expressed their desire to have such interactions on regular basis in future. They also suggested that the regular information about various add-on courses or career advancement options should be given directly to them so that they can discuss the same with their wards.

The parents also visited Dr. O.P. Bhalla Central Library. Ms. Mamta Kaushik interacted with the parents and talked about various facilities available in the Library. Finally, the Meet concluded with a colloquial conversation at lunch.
