Orientation Program for Ph.D. Scholars of MRU

Manav Rachna University welcomed its Ph.D. scholars at a special orientation ceremony held on February 4, 2017. This is the second batch of doctoral students at Manav Rachna University. There was an air of anticipation and much excitement among the Faculty and Scholars.

The day started with the reporting of scholars at the Dr. O.P. Bhalla Learning Lounge for their registration. The Orientation Program began on an auspicious note with a havan graced by Hon’ble Satya Bhalla Mam, Chief Patron, Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI); Dr. M.M. Kathuria, Chairman BoG, MREI; Prof. (Dr.) Anand Prakash, Delhi University; Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University (MRU), MD, MREI; Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Mahna Pro VC, MRU; Dean(s) and Head of the Department(s) among others.

The Havan was followed by Academic Sessions. Dr. Megha Mittal, Leader Ph.D. Program, MRU welcomed all the dignitaries and Ph.D. Scholars and the program was initiated by the blessings and opening remarks of Prof. Mahna. Dr. Mittal shared the Ph.D. governance system at MRU and all significant documents which are required by scholars throughout their journey of the Doctoral Program. She apprised them about how they could take an action and ensure that they evolve themselves continuously so that when they leave the campus to take on greater horizons, they are equipped to become future supervisors.
This was followed by a broad overview of Manav Rachna Educational Institutions (MREI) by Brig. (R) S. N. Setia, Director, Admissions and an overview of Manav Rachna University by Prof. (Dr.) M.S. Khurana, Dean Academics, MRU. Prof. Khurana gave the scholars a reality check by showing the process of communication at University and for any legitimate issue they can reach to even the Head of the Institution. Prof. (Dr.) B. M. Bahal, Dean Research and Applied Science, MRU shared the entire process of Ph.D. research endeavor as per the ordinance of Manav Rachna University in a sequential manner so that they get fully acquainted with the same. Prof. Bahal sensitized the students about how their hard work, sincerity and perseverance would steer them to success.

Prof. (Dr.) Anand Prakash in his guest lecture addressed the gathering and emphasized that Ph.D. is the art of learning a process and arriving at a product by enjoying the journey and destination. He narrated significant analogies to explain the level of hard work and dedication required to complete the Ph.D.. A special session was delivered by Dr. Ramachandran, Account Manager (Scientific Stream), Accendere Knowledge Management Services Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi. Dr. Ram explained how Accendere group can play a significant role in Research Paper Writing and Publishing.

Mr. Vikram Sharma, University Librarian in his address shared the library facility for scholars. Mr. Vikarm introduced the bounty ofdatabase of print and e-version of journals and books learning available to the scholars at Manav Rachna. The library also provides facility of remote access thus scholars are always synchronized with the literature available.

Post lunch there was an interactive session with the scholars of the previous batch. The scholars who were present during the session were Jaideep Singh, Unmesh Shukla, Anuj Agrawal, Ashish Agrawal, Gauri Bhasin and Hanu Bharadwaj. The scholars shared their last one year’s experiences and on a positive note the fear of examination system and rigour in the Ph.D. processes.

Addressing the scholars and faculties, Professor (Dr) Sanjay Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, Manav Rachna University spoke about the ‘Research process and steps in conducting research. He explained three important Do’s for scholars (a) Do not miss out the course work classes as through these classes the scholars of today shall be groomed as Supervisors of tomorrow (b) Prepare a diary for yourself and mark deadlines to achieve all the important points mentioned in Academic Calendar of Ph.D. Program. In sync with the calendar of Ph.D. program, design your own personal calendar. Always be in touch with your Supervisor (c) Develop the habit of documentation and make a target to read minimum two books of your choice in a month, if possible write summary of the books in a personal diary. He finished his session by chanting Shlok of Shrimad Bhagwad Geeta chapter 15 which says that ‘Intellectual Renewal is the key for success’.
