A one-day workshop on ‘Automation in railways using IOT’ was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication.
The main objective of the session was to bring awareness about various processes of the automation system in Indian Railways and the technology used in live projects and also to motivate the participants from various engineering disciplines to come together and understand their role in multidisciplinary projects and innovate
Mr. Pawan Kumar started with the introduction about Central Railways Information systems. He shared how there are a number of applications that have been built for the customer interface and railway monitoring and control.
He explained in detail how RFID tags and readers have replaced traditional axel counters for high-speed tarins. These tags share the data on the cloud which is helpful in accessing data anywhere on the world wide web. He demonstrated the entire process using the RFID hardware and the cloud ‘thingspeak’.
