One day Workshop on ‘Applications of MS Project in Real Life Problem’

Department of Civil Engineering, FET, (MRIIRS) organized a one day workshop on ‘Applications of MS Project in Real Life Problem’ in association with the Association of Global NICMARians (AGNI), Delhi Chapter on August 30, 2019.

This workshop was conducted by Mr. Akshay Dhawan of NICMAR, Mr. Parivesh from HFCL and Mr. Harshad Agarwal from Tata Projects.

20 students of B.Tech 7thSem, M. Tech 1st & 3rd Sem and faculty members attended the workshop.

The program started with a briefing of the workshop by Dr. Sadiqa Abbas, Professor & Head, Department of Civil Engineering. This was followed by an overview of AGNI and its role in training and capacity building of students by Mr. Parivesh.

The workshop began with an introduction to the MSP software and its application to real life problems. The MS Project software deals in complete scheduling of all types of construction/ mechanical and other projects, and it works on the basis of work breakdown structure, wherein the project is broken down  into numerous activities at different levels, the primary one being Level 1 and the sub activities being Level 2, 3 and so on.

The workshop also dealt with learning about the basic concept of CPM (critical path method) and PERT techniques of planning, it also elaborated about creating project calendars, resource listing, and allocations to various activities and creating cost implications sheets of each activity. The baseline information, the addition of the project and then regular tracking of the actual status of work completed was also discussed. The software gives immense support to today’s project managers who deal with stringent deadlines and resources management problems under the uncontrolled situations of Force majeure events and still, deliver the projects on the fast track mode.

The students gave excellent feedback of exposure they got in this workshop. On special request of students, the members of Team AGNI again visited campus on September 2, 2019 for a doubt clearing session.
