One day visit to Indian Meteorological Dept. (IMD), Lodhi Road, New Delhi

Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), Faridabad organized a one day visit to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Lodhi Road, New Delhi recently.

A group of 38 students of UG & PG program along with Mr. Gurvinder Singh and Mr. Rameezut Tauheed proceeded to the pioneer organization.

The students were first taken to Central Hydro Met Observatory where they learned how everyday maximum and minimum temperature of the day, humidity, soil temperature, wind velocity and directions were recorded and reports were generated.

Students were then taken to National Center for Satellite Meteorology and were explained about satellite communication of India and its role in weather reporting. They were also briefed about the procedure followed in preparation of weather reports and various satellites India is using in this venture.

At last, they visited National Weather Forecasting Center, where they were told about the weather forecasting, how it is done and its importance. Students also got an opportunity to interact with many scientists working at IMD and explored the role of civil engineering in the field.
