Invited Lecture for Mathematics Students
Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Kumar, Head- Department of Mathematics, Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) conducted an invited lecture on ‘Role of Mathematical Techniques in Medical Decision Making Processes’ for the students of Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Manav Rachna University. The lecture was attended by the students of B.Sc. (H) & M.Sc. Mathematics and Faculty members.
Dr. Arti Saxena, Assistant Prof., Department of Mathematics, MRIIRS; Prof. (Dr.) B. M. Bahal, Dean Research & Dean Applied Sciences; & Dr. Parneeta Dhaliwal, HOD Mathematics were also present during the lecture.
Dr. Vijay commenced his talk giving basic real life examples and situations where one can find the application of Mathematical Modeling. He then talked about how Mathematical modeling plays a vital role in the diagnosis of diseases. He also presented a mathematical formulation and analysis of a medical diagnosis taking into consideration the available status of the patients, suitable treatment prescribed, and the iterations involved. He then explained the decision making process for the treatment of the problem using Fuzzy Techniques.
Dr. Vijay concluded his talk by suggesting the future research aspects in Mathematical Modeling. He motivated the students to understand the importance of Mathematics and learn ways of applying Mathematics in day-to-day life. Students actively participated in an interactive session with the guest speaker and discussed their queries.
