Indo Japan Student Exchange Programme in Faculty of Applied Sciences

Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad encourages international partnerships that promote the exchange of information and resources, create opportunities and promote excellence in higher education through student-faculty exchange program in co-operation with leading International Universities; Teeside University, UK; Tsukuba University, Japan; Idris Sultan, Malaysia; University Sains, Malaysia etc. Under one such exchange programme, Ms.NAO KOIZUMI pursuing Masters program in Health and Sport Sciences from Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences, Tsukuba University, Japan, completed a part of her Internship programme at Faculty of Applied Science, Manav Rachna International University, India under the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The objective of her visit was to conduct a research study on Rescue Foods (Fire and Rescue Services; Disaster Prevention and Preparedness) for a period of 15 days. She completed her research study under the expert guidance of Dr.G.L.Khanna, Dean, FAS and Ms.Lakhvinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, N&D, FAS.  The locale of her study was Delhi Fire Station at Sec -16, Rohini  and CATS ambulance services at Vasant Kunj, South Zone in Delhi region. She used interview method as a tool to collect data for nutritional status and physical activity from Fire personnel’s, Paramedics and drivers of ambulance.

Analysis of collected data indicated that there is a strong need of proper nutrition for the fire as well as ambulance personnel’s to sustain their job responsibility. There is a strong recommendation of providing healthy and nutritious food to personnel’s involved in rescue management services to maintain their health. Also there is a need of proper training to be provided to the rescue management personnel’s as they are involved in various physical activities. Such exchange programmes give platform to the students to interact with international students to gain more knowledge and familiarize them with various developments taking place especially in nutrition and food science arena as in this case.
