Independence Week Celebration 11th – 15th August 2015

Department of Students Welfare, Manav Rachna International University organized a series of events in the campus from 11-15th August 2015 in order to celebrate the 69th Independence Day of India. The celebration carried on for almost a week and successfully created a never ending impact and vibe of patriotism in the hearts of the students.
As a part of the Independence week celebration, a Poster making competition was held on 11th August 2015 at AT- 15,16 in which 23 students participated. The theme for the competition was ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’. Dr. S. K. Chakrawarti, Director Research and Development was the judge of the event. He briefed the participants about some minute technicalities of expressing more through a poster and declared the results as: Yaksh Gupta (1st year, B. Tech Civil, FET) winner and Shefali Yadav (4th year, B. Tech ECE, MRCE) runner up of the event.
On the same day a Best Out of Waste competition was also organized at AT-15,16. This event was a team event and saw a participation of 24 teams from different faculties / institutions of Manav Rachna. The participants had to unleash their creativity and make something by using waste materials relevant to the theme ‘Patriotism’. Dr. Abhilasha (Associate Prof. Biotechnology, FET, MRIU) was the judge of the event. Nimit Virmani (2nd Year BBA, FCH) and Aarushi Katoch (2nd year, BBA, FCH) won the first prize while Niharika Mishra (1st year BCA, FCA) and Prateek Singh (1st year BCA, FCA) bagged the second position.
On 12th August 2015, a Rangoli Competition was organized in T Block Seminar Hall which saw a huge response and a participation of 70+ students from different faculties and institutions of Manav Rachna. The participants had to portray a rangoli based on the theme ‘Colors of India’. The event was judged by Dr, Chavi Bhargava Sharma, Dean FMS and Prof. Umesh Kalra, Dean FCH and FMeS. They were amazed to encounter this creative side of the participants and got magnetized by the colorful rangoli designs. Mahak Lamba, Kriti Vig, Shrishti Kalra, Khushboo Rajput and Abhimanyu Singh from MRCE won the competition while Shivani Choudhary, Ria Taneja, Roshni Raj, Gunjan Kharbanda and Sonal Chadda from FAS bagged the second position.
In order to introduce something new and trending, DSW organized a Dubsmash Competition in which the participants had to make their dubsmash videos on any dialog or song of patriotic genre. The event saw a participation of 12 students. The students took keen interest in the event and made beautiful videos. Jitain Sangwan (1st year B. Tech EEE, FET, MRIU) won the competition.
A major event of the Independence week celebration was India Quiz which was a two day event and saw participation of 64 participants teamed up to form 32 teams. The competition was based on almost every field related to India i.e. Geography, History, Current Affairs, Economy etc. It was conducted on 12th and 13th August at AT 15,16(1st day) & AF21(2nd Day). The event comprised of different rounds of Rapid Fire questions, Projector round, MCQs etc. The tricky questions gave the participants a hard time to crack and settle for an answer. Siddharth Vashist (3rd year B.Tech Biotech, FET) and Shekhar Sharma (4th year B. Tech CSE, FET) won the competition while Shailesh Rathi (2nd year B. Tech Mechanical, MRCE) and Shubham Aggarwal (2nd year B. Tech Mechanical, MRCE) were declared as the first runner-ups.

The Independence week celebration concluded with a grand celebration in A block Auditorium which brought the week long celebration to the best possible closing note. Col. V. K. Gaur (Advisor, MREI), Dr. Sanjay Srivastav (MD MREI), Prof. D. S. Gotra (Proctor, MRIU), Prof. Umesh Kalra (Dean FCH and FMeS), Prof. Anil Sareen (HOD Management, FCH), Prof. I. K. Kilam (Dean Students Welfare, MRIU) graced the occasion by their presence. The event started with the lighting of the lamp by all the senior dignitaries and a Ganesh Vandana Dance performance. The event comprised of two duet dance performances and a group dance.
A nukkad natak (Aazaadi ka Arth) by the members of Manav Rachna Theatrical Troupe created a much needed impact on everyone’s heart and made them understand the true meaning of being independent. A Fashion Show performance by the members of Manav Rachna Fashionistas drenched in the colors of the national flag boosted up the spirit of the audience. The event also involved a poetry by a first year student of B. Tech EEE student Deeksha Sanwal on Patriotism and a short speech by Sonal Prasad (2nd year, B.Tech CSE, FET).
Col. V. K. Gaur, (Advisor MREI) entertained the audience by his shayaris and encouraging speech while Prof. Umesh Kalra, (Dean FCH and FMeS) made the crowd hum along as he sang a patriotic song “Hum us desh k waasi hain jis desh me ganga behti hai”. All the senioe dignitaries distributed prizes to all winners of the events with their blessings.
The event ended with a highly enthusiastic and mind blowing performance of a Pariotic medley by the members of Manav Rachna Music Group collaborating with Sufi Aghaaz. The performance made the crowd cheer and pour their heart out.
The event ended with love and respect for the nation and left everyone proud to be a citizen of a brilliant country called INDIA.
