‘Ideation and Innovation’ competition during Poshan Maah 2021 celebrations

On the occasion of Posahn Maah 2021, The Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, MRIIRS successfully conducted a competition on ‘Ideation & Innovation’ on the theme ‘Food Waste Management: A Step Towards Food Waste Management’. The coordinators for the event were Dr. Pratibha Singh, Professor, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, and Dr. Gurseen Rakhra, Assistant Professor, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Pratibha Singh who welcomed the judges for the event, Dr. Kshipra Misra, President, Save the Environment, Kolkata; Former additional Director DIPAS, DRDO, and Dr. Nidhi Didwania, Managing Director, M/s Tricho Agronica Pvt. Ltd, Associate Professor, Department of biotechnology, MRIIRS. Out of the total entries, 10 best ideas were chosen for the competition. The students enthusiastically presented their ideas on managing food waste to ensure food sustainability. The participants came up with ideas and thoughts on using food waste ranging from the use of almond peels, pomegranate flour, egg peel, lemon peel, ginger peel, etc., to ensure food sustainability.

The ideas were appreciated by the esteemed judges and the participants were given valuable suggestions for their research ideas and innovation. Dr. Divya Sanghi, Head Department of Nutrition and Dietetics delivered the vote of thanks to the judges and participants. Finally, the winners for the competition were announced by Dr. Gurseen Rakhra. The first prize was won by Preeti Bhowmik, Department of Biotechnology, MRIIRS on the idea of using egg peels for the production of hydroxyapatite. The second prize was bagged by a team of three participants Harshita Goel, Shivali, and Sandeep, Department of Nutrition & Dietetics, MRIIRS. They presented the idea of using the orange peel for the production of Mosquito repellant. The third prize was given to Kavyanshi Aggarwal, Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College, on the topic of food waste manager.
