Fifth Public Lecture by Dr. Tanu Shree Singh

Manav Rachna organized its Fifth Public Lecture on ‘Be Selfish- Embrace Gratitude and Mindfulness’ by Dr. Tanu Shree Singh, an Author and a Positive Psychologist today. Dr. Tanu Shree is the author of ‘Keep Calm and Mommy On’. Focused on discovering true happiness through positive psychology, the lecture equipped the audience with the various keys to be happy.

Mentioning that gratitude, positive emotions, acceptance, and mindfulness create the path to happiness; Dr. Singh shared the types of positive emotions- pleasure, comfort, gratitude, hope, inspiration, and mindfulness.

“The keys to mindfulness are acknowledgement, acceptance, containment, observation, and addition”, she said. She emphasized audience to observe more in order to accept and contain. Here she quoted the two extremes of ‘level of awareness’- Monkey Mind and Mindfulness. She added, “Addition of positive experiences is one of the cornerstones on happiness and flourishing”.

Moving on to ‘gratitude’, she said that gratitude is the acknowledgement of goodness in our lives. She motivated the audience to maintain ‘The Gratitude Journal’ that will help them reciprocate and introspect on the day’s proceedings and will help them express gratitude to the good things that took place during the day. She also discussed ‘The PERMA Model of Well-being’ and ‘The 24 Character Strengths’.

The mindfulness exercises and student-speaker interaction brought out the real essence of the lecture which was well inculcated in everyone.
