Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Faculty of Media Studies and Humanities (FMeH) organized a special lecture on “Is Media Losing its Credibility: The Challenges of Being Heard” by a well-known anchor, Jaspreet Kaur from News 18 India. She was welcomed by Mr Manoj Raut, Head of the Department.
Addressing the gathering, Ms Kaur said that media is today under tremendous pressure as it no longer is the sole source of information. “It is facing stiff competition from various social media outlets but let me assure you that its credibility cannot be questioned as people still depend on traditional media outlets to get confirmed news,” she said. Defending the choice of stories that are picked up by media organizations for broadcast, she said that the selection is done mainly on the basis of what people would like to watch.
The students enthusiastically interacted with her and asked her several questions about media’s credibility in today’s age, which the anchor deftly handled.
