Educational Course & International Conference on Green Chemistry

Department of Chemistry, Manav Rachna University (MRU) organized one-week Educational course on ‘Recent Advances in Green Chemistry & Technology’ and International Conference on ‘Green Initiatives in Science & Technology’ (Jan 7-11, 2019) in association with Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence, University of York (UK) which concluded today. Dr. Avtar Matharu, Deputy Director GCCE was the educational course director and also gave plenary lecture during the conference on “Systems change: Transforming unavoidable food supply chain waste into value-based biorefineries”.

The educational course consisted of thought-provoking lectures on greener options in the field of Chemistry followed by hands-on sessions in the state-of-the-art labs giving opportunity to the participants to indulge in various experiments based on the principles of Green Chemistry involving green solvents, lesser energy and process modification.

Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, VC, MRU inaugurated the International Conference which comprised eminent speakers like Dr. Girija Bharat, Founder Director, Mu Gamma Consultants Pvt. Ltd.; Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Sharma, Green Chemistry Network, Department of Chemistry, University of Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay K Sharma, JECRC, Jaipur; Prof. D.K. Sharma, IIT Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) Veena Choudhary, IIT Delhi; Dr. Sangeeta Pandita (DU); and Dr. Indu Sidwani (DU). Various topics like waste to energy, green polymers, plastic pollution, pesticide pollution, bioremediation and renewable resource options were discussed and debated upon.

Prof. R.K. Sharma addressed the audience on “Initiatives by green chemistry network center in promoting education, research and training in academia and industry”. Dr. Girija Bharat explained the persistence of organic pollutants and other various green methods of them by various green techniques. The best poster and oral presentations were awarded during the valedictory session.
