Civil Engineering Students Visited Geological Survey of India, Faridabad

Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), Faridabad organized a one day visit to Geological Survey of India (GSI), Faridabad recently.

A group of 35 students from Semester IV along with two Assistant Professors, Mr. Ahzam Shadab and Mr. Rameezut Tauheed proceeded to the pioneer organization. The visit coincided with the celebrations of the 167th anniversary of the organization.
The program started with the presentation about GSI, its inception, working, progress and various projects that are under progress across the globe.

 

After the thoughtful presentation, the students were divided into five groups and each group had a scientist from GSI attached as a mentor taking them to different labs at the organization.

The students got an opportunity to interact with world class scientist in the field of earth science to quench their curiosity. Demonstrations were given about the various state-of-the-art laboratory facilities available at GSI, Faridabad, for mineral identification and characterization studies. These Laboratories included X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) laboratory, Electron Probe Micro Analyser (EPMA) Laboratory, X-Ray Fluorescence Study (XRF) laboratory, Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma mass Spectrometer (LA-ICPMS) and Experimental Petrology Studies Laboratory.

This was followed by a visit to two remarkable museums. The program ended with the presentations on the various GSI projects currently in Antarctica and the challenges that GSI faced during the construction of Tehri Dam.
