Centre for Water Management launched at Manav Rachna International University to work on and resolve water-related issues of Faridabad’s people

Manav Rachna International University (MRIU) has launched the Centre for Water Management to strategize, implement and resolve water related issues in Faridabad. At a meeting organized by the Department Of Biotechnology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, MRIU, experts from different disciplines of water and waste water gathered together to brainstorm over subjects related to water management in Faridabad and proposed the setting up of the Centre for Water Management in MRIU. This follows in the wake of the announcement made on 19th December, 2015 at the National Workshop entitled –Water Conservation & Pollution’ jointly organized by the Indian National Committee of International Association of Hydrogeologists (INC – IAH) and Manav Rachna International University wherein the need to set up a Water Forum’ Haryana was proposed. At the current meeting, it was proposed that the Water Forum, Haryana would hence forth be known as the Centre for Water Management. The agenda of the First meeting for the setting up of the Centre for Water Management in MRIU included the finalization of the itinerary in reference to the scope of work to be adopted by the Centre. Speaking at the meeting, Dr Prashant Bhalla, President, MREI, said, “The Centre for Water Management, will work on issues of water harvesting and water conservation, ground water management, drainage, awareness services, climate change and water, ground water governance and legislations, water security and ecological aspects of water management and research, motivation and business solutions for water management.” It was resolved at the meeting that the enforcement and implementation and monitoring team should be constituted as a third party to resolve water issues of the local citizens. Addressing the gathering, Dr D.K. Chadha, Former Chairman, Groundwater Board, said, “It is proposed that the Centre for Water Management will provide guidelines and the implementation strategies for the different problems in water and environment sector in Haryana including the emerging problems of water scarcity and water quality.” Mr D.R. Bhaskar, Superintendent Engineer, Nodal Officers, Smart City, Faridabad and Mr M.K. Sharma, Ex-additional Secretary, Central Water Commission, GoI, present at the meeting pointed out that some zone-specific designs of rain water harvesting and enforcement monitoring as third party should come into force to resolve water issues of Faridabad’s people. The meeting was also attended by Dr N.C. Wadhwa, VC, MRIU; Architect and Conservationist Munish Pandit; Dr Subrata Kunar, Scientist, RITES; Dr Dipankar Saha, Member, CGWB, GoI; Dr M.K. Soni, Executive Director & Dean, FET, MRIU; Dr Sarita Sachdeva, HOD, Biotechnology, FET, MRIU, among others.
