Butterfly Month

The students of B.Sc. (Chem) and B.Sc. (Maths) participated in the ‘Butterfly Count’ on September 11, 2019 on account of Butterfly Month (September 2019) organized by Conservation Education Centre, Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary, BNHS, New Delhi, in collaboration with Butterfly Research Centre of Bhimtal, Ninox, and The Delight Factory.

The Education Officer Dr. Ishtiyak Ahamad made a presentation on the diversity of butterflies in India and created awareness of their ecological benefits and threats to these amazingly beautiful creatures. He also urged the students to grow the plants which act as host and nectar plants for butterflies.

Also a visit to Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary was arranged for the staff and students on September 12, 2019.  The sanctuary is celebrating September 2019 as ‘Delhi Butterfly Month’ to promote conservation of butterflies and spread awareness about them.

The students were acquainted with the life cycle of butterflies. The students observed different species of butterflies, plants, and animals during the trail.  They got to know about the reasons leading to their decline and about various simple means to save them. The education officer, during the interaction, also highlighted the common plants and their medicinal uses.
