Anti-tobacco Walkathon on World No-tobacco Day at MRDC in association with ESIC Medical College

Upholding its tradition of community healthcare, Manav Rachna Dental College (MRDC), Faridabad conducted an anti-tobacco walkathon on World No-tobacco day, 31st May 2018. The walkathon was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in collaboration with ESIC Medical College, Department of Community Medicine, Faridabad. The aim of the walkathon was to create a public awareness against tobacco use among the residents of Faridabad.

Both students and staff from MRDC and ESIC Medical College participated in the walkathon. They marched from ESIC Medical College to Manav Rachna Vidyanatariksha head office in Faridabad. The participants raised slogans against tobacco use and made the general public aware about ill effects of tobacco use.

The walkathon was flagged off by Dr. MM Kathuria, Trustee, MREI; Dr. NC Wadhwa, VC, MRIIRS; Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, VC, MRU; Dr. MK Soni, Pro-VC, MRIIRS; Dr. Asim Das and Dr. Arundeep Singh, Principal, MRDC. The event was co-sponsored by Lion’s Club, Lake City, Faridabad. On the occasion, Dr. NC Wadhwa emphasized the importance of such initiatives in improving awareness about harms of tobacco. Dr. Arundeep Singh elaborated on the effect of tobacco on the heart and emphasized on the need of motivating population to quit tobacco habit.

The two events on the first day of initiative were ‘Tee Shirt Painting’ competition and ‘Tobacco Detox Platter’ competition. The competitions were organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Manav Rachna Dental College.
