A Smart Device For Special Children

The Department of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry, Manav Rachna Dental College strives to provide complete oral health care to Children with Special Health Care Needs such as Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Visual or Hearing Impairment. It has been observed that such children are at a greater risk of acquiring dental diseases and have poorer oral hygiene. To address this, the Department has made a device – ‘CLEAN IN 2’ that aims at maintaining the ideal brushing time for child i.e. 2 minutes.

The alarm in the brush is activated as the power button is switched on just before brushing. The buzzer is heard & vibration is felt after the completion of 2 minutes. The device conditions the child to not stop brushing before the minimum brushing time. To complete the process of fabrication of the device, Manav Rachna Innovation & Incubation Center (MRIIC) constructed the circuit and the base of the device using a 3D Printer.

This project is a small effort to improve the oral health standards of a neglected but an equally important section of the society.
