The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Manav Rachna University organized a “Workshop on 3D Printing” on 18th February 2017 from 08:30 AM to 04:15 PM in H Block Seminar Hall (HF-03). The workshop is organised by Mr. Gianender Kajal and Mr. Ajay Kumar Agarwal, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, MRU, Faridabad with the collaboration of knowledge partner CARBONSLICE, Faridabad. The workshop was attended by 31 students and 4 Faculty members of Mechanical Engineering Department.
The guest speaker was heartily welcomed by Chetan Dilawri, a student of Mechanical Engineering Department. The guest speaker Mr. Soumil Mahajan, Director, got his degree of Mechanical from University of Guelph, Canada. He also worked as a Research Assistant with the Department of Engineering and Mr. Saurabh Kataria, Asstt. Director, got his degree BE with Honors (Manufacturing) from BITS Pilani. He started his professional career as Getin Anand Automotives . He later worked in a couple of E-Commerce Start-ups before venturing into 3D Printing Technology.
In the beginning Mr. Soumil Mahajan gave the introduction on 3D Printing and its various applications in the today’s world. Later he explained the different types of 3D Printing Technologies and its day to day application in today’s time. He explained why one should opt for 3D printing instead of any other technology. He guided the students regarding the broad future career they have in this vast field and as it is exponentially growing at a very high rate in the last 10 years. He also motivated the students to perform “Hands on Activity” on the 3D Printer so that every student has a visualized knowledge of 3D Printers and its working procedure. He later gave the students a live problem to which he told them to perform brain storming together and works out different ideas for the same and gave viable Design solutions and the best solution was awarded a prize.
After the theoretical Session, the Designing and printing session was carried out by Mr. Saurabh Kataria. He helped the students in visualizing, creating, brainstorming different layouts on Solidworks. He was helping the students throughout the seminar and no unattended doubts were left as each single doubt was cleared by both speakers. He helped the students in designing models on Solidworks and later convert it into file containing G-CODES & M-CODES & later apply those so that a 3D Print of the layout they made on SolidWorks could be printed via the 3D Printers they bought with them. Different layouts were printed and now the students are well equipped with the knowledge that if in future they need to make 3D Print via 3D Printing technology, they won’t hesitate. Both the sessions were very interactive and students participated enthusiastically.
The vote of thanks was given by a Dr. R.N. Rai, HoD, ME Department, MRU, Faridabad and also presented a small token of appreciation to our valuable guests. He gave best wishes to all students and faculty members for delightful and successful life.
As per the feedback received from the participants it was very good learning experience, the lecture helped them in understanding the 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY.
